Does anyone have both machines? How does their all-around field performance compare? Depth, stability in hot/trashy ground, on coins, wet salt beach, nuggets. I realize most here on this forum will favor the ATP. But how does the G2 compare? I'm planning a first trip to England and want to take 2 small, easy to pack all-around powerful machines with me. I'm willing to compromise some performance for light weight, fewer batteries (and not having to worry about charging them!)- yet performance must be above average.
I have the ATP and like it more each day. It clearly performs above average. But the G2 is lighter, uses just 1 9V battery and like the ATP in Pro Mode, I read a fast recovery detector too. My trip thinking is also, rather than have 2 of the same machines ( 1 as back-up), perhaps I should have 2 different detectors- in case I discover a preference for the way one works in local conditions? I read in England, many like the ATP, but also the Teknetics machines. I was considering the Cibola or Vaquero, but perhaps the newer ATP/G2 technology has surpassed them?
I do not know my ATP well yet. I am surprised how deep it hits targets in my test garden and in Hot ground! It also seems very fast and hits deeper targets even with a fast coil swing! I like that. I like the DD coil and am shocked how well it hits on small nuggets and gold range targets! The ATP in Pro Mode does seem a bit noisy, but a small price for performance. For me the face is difficult to read and small, especially in dim light. My ATP is not as hot on silver as on gold. But I do like it. So how does the G2 compare? Thanks for all advice.
