atp vrs exterra 705

waterproof vs versatility

I'd buy a used 705 with some coils and do my own comparison . google treasureclassifieds
They are probably the most resellable detectors out there so if you didn't want to keep them , either would be easy to move

I owned the X-Terra 70, great machine with good coil choices. Found gold with it too in prospect mode but it struggled in highly mineralized soil in the gold fields. I now have the ATP and have been using it since 2012 and love it. Simply a great all round take anywhere machine. To be honest I wouldn't even bother with the 705 because the ATP can pretty much do what the 705 can + go underwater as you know. Besides the coil choices (different frequencies) and prospect mode you will find that both perform on par so don't expect the 705 to be a deeper machine. Prospect mode does go deep but hardly worth the extra coin spent on buying a 705. The back light is cool if you are into night hunting but again a led head light can solve that problem. By the way I just bought a second hand Tesoro Lobo supertraq and for an older machine it runs smoother then the 70 did in all metal mode(prospect mode 70) on the gold fields. The 70 and 705 are pretty much the same bar the back light and GB adjustment. If I was buying a second machine it would have to be either a different beast (PI or BBS) or a machine that specializes in something like beach, gold or saltwater hunting. Something that totally excels over the ATP and the Lobo ST certainly does that on small gold.
Cheers!
