ATP In Saltwater?

I'm expecting my ATP back from Garrett any day now. Garrett did several modifications- was told a new coil, new board and rod. I was somewhat impressed with the ATP before I sent it in for the mods. Now I hope the upgrades still perform as good as before?

I really want to try the ATP in Caribbean saltwater. I wonder if the ATP can run at high sens in the salt? I mean, I'm OK with a noisy machine, so long as good target responses come through? My Infinium can be noisy, so I'm used to that. On the other hand if sensitivity has to be reduced 30 to 50%, will there be any depth left with ATP? Even with an Excalibur or a 21, sensitivity has to be turned back in the salt most of the time- but there still is decent detection depth. It would be great if the ATP could hit some gold rings in the surf! But I see some say there's a big depth loss in the salt? Has anyone found any gold in the salt with ATP?

I have found several gold rings in salt water this summer. I live approximately 50 miles inland from VA beach on the York river. The water is VERY salty - in fact, no fresh water fish can live in it. My AtPro ground balances at 13 and I am still able to run 7 bars of sensitivity - a little chatty, but the rings I found came in loud and clear.

Make sure you wash the AT Pro in clean (non-salt) water after you been to a salt beach / in salt water, the connectors don't hold up to well to the salt and turn white.

Also, take the rod apart and wash the sand out of it or it will be a PITA to get appart later.

That is good advice. I am going to coat the outside of my connectors with something before I hit the salt next time, maybe vaseline or something similar. Mine turned milky white after the salt water dunking, and I even cleaned them up before putting the ATP away for a few days.

WD 40 does not protect enough, maybe someone here can recommend something?

Thanks

Jess in Pa.
