ATP going crazy.

Took the pro out today for a little relic hunting. Had the Tornado mounted and everything set to pro zero and knocked the gb down 5. I started off great and then the pro started going crazy on me. Real erractic tones and VDI's. Decided to change coils after trying different freq. cutting down sensitivty and re-gb to no avail. Put on the 5x8 took batteries out put them back in and did a reset. Started out good and then went crazy again. I tried everything nothing worked and I was about to abort. As a last measure I was going to change batteries. I started pulling the batteries and lo and behold I had reversed the polarity on one of the batteries. Put them back in and everything worked great. Found alot of junk but no relics but learned a valuable lesson.

SOLUTION: a RNB Power Plus AT-BATT-PACK . Just the pack, no individual cells (AAs) to fuss with, no broken cell holders, and no more "one cell reversed" problems. Plus you get longer run time on one charge.

I've been considering the change. The only problem I have with rechargables is they are usually only put out 4.8 volts. The batteries I currently use are 1.5 volts putting out 6 volts for the pack. I think I get better performance from the 1.5 AA. I use the RNB in my Etrac and I get excellent run time out of it.

Simple mistake that we all make
I had a similar problem with the AT-Pro, It was going off like a pinball machine, Went through " everything."
Turned out that I got the coil cord stuck on a large branch and pulled away with out knowing, I pulled too hard.
Coil are not cheep LOL. .

Hey, guess what! I just measured battery pack no load voltages:

4-AA alkaline fresh out of the blister pack and into the holder: 6.4VDC

4-AA NiMH as supplied with the ATPro fully charged: 5.3VDC

Power Plus AT-BATT PAC fully charged: 7.3VDC

ALL ARE OK, as the detector will take the power source voltage and regulate it down to a voltage that the electronics of the detector needs to operate correctly, typically 5VDC.

Happened to me last week, used some gold ever ready batteries alkaline, detector went crazy, changed batteries and worked fine.
