So I noticed that the battery holder has a 1.5v symbol on it and it came from the factory with normal Energizer 1.2v batteries. My question is should I replace with 1.5v for performance or stick with the 1.2v lithium ion rechargables that I have on hand? Not sure if iut even matters. Thanks for any help.

Hi Steve,

The 1.2V rechargeable lithium batteries are fine for use. I've had them in my ATG for over a year without any issues. You may find that the battery strength indicator will drop by one bar shortly after use due to the lower voltage. However this has no impact on how long the battery charge lasts nor does it affect the performance of the detector. The battery supply voltage is regulated so the circuitry inside the detector will see that same voltage regardless of which battery type is used.

Hope this helps,
DD

I agree with Dancin' Dave. I've been running with Eneloop low-self-discharge rechargeables for 2 years and couldn't be happier. Haven't bought a battery since I got them (well, I added a few more - use them in everything now). they're rated 1.2, but mine test at around 1.4 volts when charged. Garrett says that there is no performance loss until the battery meter gets down to 1 bar, though I tend to change them out a little before that.

Yup..what they said.
