ATG unstable in Southern NM

Tom E IL

New member
I took the ATG out near some water south of Roswell. I had to walk away from the water to GB, when I put the coil in the water the ATG went nuts. I am thinking there is some salt mines around the Southern NM area. I know its not salt water, there was a sand area where people use as a beach and the ATG is very unstable there too unless you GB by the trees about 100 yards away. Is this how the ATG would act around salt. Am I going to have to have the ATP also, and if so how do I get it by the wife.

If there were a pinhole in the coil cable, how would the machine respond when in water?

Two and a half ideas that you can try if you have not. Reduce the sensitivity (you probably did this). Manually ground balance to see if you can find stability. Lastly, try frequency offset in combination with the adjusting the sens and manually ground balancing. If there are high concentrations of alkali salts it might be a problem too.

You have goods points, not use to it yet, I am going to go back and try some of what you said, I also looked at you tube and gave some things I didnt think of. Thanks for the tips.

I think it must be all the Aliens and radioactive stuff out in the area your hunting!! LOL Just Kidding!! But on more serious note are their any big antennas or high voltage power lines in your area? Also may need to try and manually ground balance your detector and see if that helps.
