Such a good machine with it being all terrain, having iron audio, with awesome target separation, plus with 5x8 coil kills it. Why are they made so bad ? I broke 3 or more arm cuff's than towards the end of detecting season the main housing unit fell off. This past week the same thing happened to my hunting partner's ATpro the main housing unit fell off. He just bought a Atgold so you know what he thinks of the AT line. The performance of these machines out way the durability. I've been ATpro user for over 2 years bought a T2se last month and really like it a lot but I'll never sell or trade my ATpro. I just wish it didn't look Herman Munster.

Try bieng more delicate with them see if it helps ive had mine for like 4 months and not a scratch on it yet and ive used it alot.

I think it depends on the terrain, site type, and frequency of use. If you're just hitting parks and schools, no sweat. I'm usually clambering up slopes and hunting rocky ruins & such. I've snapped the control unit off the shaft twice and chipped epoxy out of coils a couple of times. I try to be VERY gentle with the units, but it doesn't help that every time I set it down, it goes rolling away - the feet are inadequate for anything beyond level parks/schools. I've found some work arounds like the LeakSeal Rubber spray for the coils and will eventually make a set of wider feet and a padded cover for both machines (just using fuzzy velcro stuff for now). I know that I'm on the more extreme terrain end of the spectrum, so not really complaining (and Garrett has been exceptionally wonderful whenever repairs were needed). But-- it sure wouldn't bother me if they offered a non-brittle coil cover, padded case/cover for the 'brains' (& sturdier attachment to the shaft), and wider 'feet' . I think that these could be done for $10 - $20, and would increase user satisfaction greatly. Hopefully, Garrett is still listening - Jerry in the repair dept. told me that they monitored this forum - and will consider some build quality improvements in the future.

This is my third year with my Pro, and have only had one issue. I got one of the early models with the falling problem. I sent it in, had it fixed, and it's been great ever since. No other problems, I find mine to be very durable.

had mine for 2 months & ive beat the hell out of it nugget hunting in the desert / water hunting / park hunting / & banging around in the back of my Suzuki Samurai
its built well :detecting: i did do the bottom of the coil with shoegoo wears like leather..

Built so well there's only a 2 yr warranty. Why not a 5 yr like some other company's ? I love my ATpro but its not a real durable detector. Performance is top notch it could be better built is all I'm saying be back in the woods 2 miles on a cold day and have a arm cuff brake swinging won't be much fun or the unit housing falls off. This happens way to often.

and went flying down some river rapids bashing on rocks when I was detecting a frequently used swimming area. My son jumped up and down on it in the car too which took all of my might to explain to him it wasn't a good idea. Yours might be from a bad batch......happens to all mass produced items. Mine is good as new.
Cheers!

Thanks, Pete - that's probably a good enough deal to make sewing one 'not worth it' ! (especially since the van is sitting in the driveway up on jackstands, waiting for me to put the new fuel pump in when it gets here, since I broke one of the 'nipples' off while changing the fuel filter, argggghhhh!!! Oh well, it'll all be new. I just want to know what sadistic engineer decided to put the filter on top of the gas tank in the exact middle of the underside of the van so that you have to drop the gas tank to change it???? :nopity:

I wiped out in the fall and the strap over my elbow to keep it in the cuff was just too much. I hate down time, so I bought a small piece of black PCV pipe, cut it in half, and glued it to my new cuff. It's built like a tank now.

I'm guessing if you are breaking your ATP with you hunting style, you'll do the same with other brands. Garrett honors their two year warranty, I have heard others have trouble getting different brands repaired. Small print in the warranty was sited. Something to do with normal ware and abuse.

Sounds like they're skimping on the material for that cuff. There's plastic available that a gorilla can't break. I think people would be willing to pay the extra few bucks for a bomb-proof version. Whatta ya say Garrett?

The AT PRo is a good machine to detect, but it is bad mower ... is a joke
seriously, we must be careful with her like a maid and not like a mule. Sometimes I forget.
