AT problem or just me??

Hi guys,i recently bought a Garret AT pro and have only been out a couple of times with it.
My questions are.
When i'm out i can dig a solid signal,but i'm not always finding something i have tried to go down to
4 bars and i have ground balaced it.
The programs are pro/zero and pro/zero with metal notched out (to40)
Sometimes it gives signals in the air to,and i have noticed that the coil connector screw sometimes unscrew it self a bit.
Is there maybe a trick on how to tighten it??
So,is it just me or could it really be falsing.
Would really appretiate som help here.

Definitely sounds like your connector is loose. One thing I do is as I'm tightening up is gently move the strain relief when there is a lot of resistance and continue to tighten using only my fingers until I feel it tight. Good luck!
 
I know they say don't do it, but I tighten the connector VERY carefully and VERY gently with a pair of pliers. Also make sure the coil wire does not move around. Use some velcro straps to secure it. I'm sure most people are tired of hearing me say this. but use no discrimination when ground balancing otherwise you might be balancing over some iron and not know it.
 
If you take Mike's ad vice better order a couple connectors so when you break one you will have one to replace it. As for me I would just finger tighten it.
 
I found mine was loose and it scared me because I thought it was plenty tight. It was not causing any problems but if I had gone in the water it might have. I used pliers but I was careful not to squeeze it. These were small plumbing type pliers like channel-locks. I adjusted them so they would not squeeze and then I just barely tightened the connection. Honestly I would never settle for finger-tight again. And it's still a very good idea to check the tightness before entering the water.
 
Make sure your coil connector is seated in the control box. It should be flush with the connector on the control box. I've made the mistake of just getting the plug in and expecting the connector sleeve to tighten it down flush, it doesn't work. Push the connector in until it mates flush with the control box connection and then tighten the sleeve while holding the connector in place. If the connector is not flush it will false everytime you move it. Always assume that you are going to be submersing your unit and you want the o-ring to be firmly seated. I wish Garrett had made this connection more user friendly and easier to get at. I love my ATP and it has paid for itself many times over but now I'm ready for ATP-SE with all of the issues resolved and a few more tweeks for hunting salt life, and more choices on coils. I'll wait for it.
 
I was out in foot-deep snow yesterday and I noticed it was falsing a weak tone now and then when the coil wire bumped the snow hard enough.

It sounds simple but it is very easy to NOT get the connector fully seated before tightening the collar. The o-ring is very tight and the connector will feel like it is all the way in when in fact it is not. I push mine as far as possible and then tighten the collar. Then I gently wiggle the connector and push at the same time and it will go in a bit farther. Then I tighten the collar again. I have never had one loosen with this method.

UPDATE:biggrin:
It seems that one part of the problem was the coil connection which i fixed with som lubrication and some patience,but it's not a good patent.
The other part of the problem was me,but i'm working on that.

You must keep the orings lubed so they slide in easily when attaching them
