At Pro ...

I know it's no Excal , but has anyone had any experience with the At Pro in the salt water and wet sand ??
Any info would be great .

You need to go to the Atpro forum for the answer, I have one but haven't used it in salt yet but be sure to get it a bath after using it in the salt water.

I had one and used to use it on the beach and wading up to chest deep in salt water.
Worked fine on the wet sand, didn't like black sand though. In the water was good, though a little bit chatty.

I enjoyed using it but ended up selling it and getting an excal for the beach.

Used it on dry sand, wet sand and wading in both fresh and salt. Once you learn to set it up for conditions it's OK but it's no Excal. However, since I can't afford an Excal right now and have the AT-Pro It's what I use!

You do want to make sure you take the shaft down and flush everything out when you're done. A simple spray off will NOT get all the salt and sand out of the connections and it will cause problems later. It only takes a few minutes, no big deal.

It does have trouble with high amounts of black sand but a little is OK. Not as deep in the salt water as a dedicated beach machine but then just over one third the price. Once I find enough to cash in for the dedicated beach machine I'll make the move but keep the AT-Pro as well. It's such a versatile machine with the extra coils. I also prefer the 5x8 DD in the water. Easier to swing and behaves better in the salt conditions for me.

Takes a while to get used to, very chatty in the salt, you got to ground balance then manually turn down one or two more notchs and also turn down the sensitivity. Pretty much only good for fresh drops not as deep as some water machines.

I have not personally used the AT PRO in saltwater but I have alot of customers who are VERY EXPERIENCED saltwater beach hunters, tell me that its great in saltwater and wet sand but to get it to work great you have to ground balance and then decrease 10-15 notches. For example if it gb's at 70 then notch it down to 60 and if it stops it from being so chatty your good to go but if not take it down to 55 and your AT PRO is a great saltwater and wet sand machine.

When I auto ground balance at the beach it goes to 12 on dry and wet. Should I go down further from that? It's pretty quiet as it is.

If it is already pretty quiet when you gb it then maybe decrease it about 2-5 notches and see if it improves on your findings, my statement above was referring to those who gb and there detector is very chatty

On my salt beaches I typically settle on 12 to 15 dry sand, 8 to 10 in the wet sand and 0 to 5 in salt water. The presence of large amounts of black sand can throw all that out the window of course!

I ground balance and drop a few points then start detecting. If it's noisy I keep dropping a few at a time until it's happy.
