I am not happy with the AT Pro for the price I paid for it. To me its the same as the ACE350. They both sound off on everything. I am going to sell my almost new AT Pro with head set, coil cover,Backpack for $ 450.00 + shipping and just buy another ACE 250.

You mean...you're keeping the ball cap???

Are you running in the standard coin mode all the time and having trouble ground balancing? If so then it's possible you would be happier with a 250? The 250 ain't no slouch but it's not even close to the capabilities of the ATpro. But really it's for fun and what funner machine to use than the Ace 250? Keep digging!

It sounds to me like you have been using it in standard mode, which has similarities with the ACE Series, however, switch to Pro Mode and you get the following differences from the ACE Series:

- audio ID to help with silver, copper vs. pull tabs
- manual ground balance for greater depth and sensitivity
- water proof, a feature which allows you to water hunt in the water, rain, fog, snow etc.
- iron audio......allows user distinguish many bottles caps from a coin
- modulated audio....the signal gets quieter with depth of a target....no need to check depth readout
- above average abilities to separate good targets being masked by other junk targets
- similar depth capabilities with same coil size as detectors costing more then 2 x as much as the AT Pro
- VDI Number Readout....that combined with the excellent audio feature really make this detector an exceptional detector
- A fast recovery speed
- 15 kHz frequency which allows for improved detection of small targets, gold nuggets, jewelry and does very well with silver also

Are you perhaps having some other issues which you haven't brought up .....the ACE series are great detectors. They have features which other detectors have costing much more. however, the AT Series are a step above the ACE detectors, however you pay more for those features.

I really hate to see someone struggling with a detector. There is a learning curve to the AT series, even much more if you have just purchased one and never metal detected before. If you are having issues and don't want to publicly as for help, please send me a private message and I will see what I can do to shorten your learning curve.

John you are right about all the extra features with the Pro..
For a newbie it can be somewhat intimidating..
Including me, I now have 4 days and 20hrs, but with yours and many others here helping me it is getting easier..
I still have a long way to go before I master it but I know as you said it just takes time..
That I have plenty of and love my AT..
Thanks to you and all the great help I get here....

man, don't give up on the AT Pro. it's a killer machine. i can't believe what i have found with it. like the others have said, run it in pro mode, check the ground balancing and learn, learn, learn. if you do your research and hunt old places, you'll get the goods.

Frenchie, I think the AT Pro is a great detector and lots of others do too.

But if you like the Ace 250 better, nothing wrong with that. Buy yourself that Ace and be happy!

I am a Newbie and the AT Pro is my First detector. And i love it.....
So much too learn with the AT Pro,someone told me it takes 100 hours playtime to get to know a metal detector. i have 8 hour on it,Started last week.
its like fishing takes alot of patience.till you catch the big fish...
