AT PRO versus the Omega 8000

That mainly depends on the skill of the operator :)

I will start out by saying that is a difficult question regardless of any detector, because of all the factors involved. With that said I will say what both detectors are like here in my dirt. The deepest coin I found with the omega was a penny at 9 1/2 to 10 inches. I was using the 11" double D coil. The stock coil on the omega was pretty well useless to me. If I remember right I had the Sensitivity max out. It was real chatty and in certain parts of the yard I was in, the emi was so bad I had to lower my sensitivity. It even went totally nuts on me a couple of times and had to shut it off and turn it back on and move out of that area. I normally ran with the sen lower because of the machine being so chatty, but this day my hunting pard and I were hunting a place that we knew the coins were deep. I have since sold the omega and now have an At Pro. With the AT I can hit a dime at 10" with the stock coil in my test garden. I didn't have my test garden when I had the omega, but I would imagine it would of hit the dime also but I would also imagine that it would of been real chatty and I really got tired of that. I also got the 5x8 coil for the AT and it is one killer machine in trashy places. The deepest coin I have found with the 5x8 so far is 8", I leave it on all the time unless I know the coins are deep. In conclusion, I like the Omega except for the chatter and had to lower the sen which in return not go as deep as I wanted. I'm really happy with the AT Pro. Good luck on your decision.

On the AT pro it will give you a pretty good audio report on deeper coins but will not ID them at all!
The manual for the omega states that sensitivity settings above 70 (I believe the number was 70) puts the unit into what is called the noise range of the circuits, its gets noisy but it does go deeper so, setting above that range is not for novice users.
I find that in average conditions the Omega with the 11" DD coil and sensitivity setting at 65 to about 70 will hit good on coins and ID pretty good down around the 8" to 9" range. That's not saying it ID's solid, but it keeps hitting the high tone and ID'in to tell you to dig it! (at this range the AT-Pro becomes a beep and dig machine, not to say that's bad).
The modulated audio of the Omega will tell you if its deep or not. For older, deep coin hunting I also recommend a GOOD set of headphones.
Another thing about the Omega, I've found that the Omega depth reading is off, the coins I've found with mine has always been deeper than reported by an inch or so.
