AT PRO UPGRADE

Hi,i live in the UK and have looked in to getting the upgrade package.I have already had the PCB and coil sorted, the trouble is I'm been told that i will not get the two year warranty if i send it to my local Garrett dealers in UK.This means i have to pay to ship to America and am i going to get hammered for import tax when the detector hits UK customs ?

Hi Topman!

I can imagine your frustration. I bought a clock on-line from Germany a while ago at a good price. Last January I got the bill from US customs. The clock cost more than if I had just bought one in the US... Live and learn...not to mention it doesn't keep good time...that's another story.

Is Garrett is aware of this situation? Is the AT Pro International having the same issues as the units in the US? (Leaking, falsing etc.) I would think they would want to make sure that their international customers are taken care of, too. It would be worth an e mail to Garrett and see what they say. So far, I have had great treament from the folks in Garland. I would wonder if some sort of arrangement could be reached in which the work could be done in the UK and the warranty extended from there.

Have you talked to Garrett directly or the local UK dealer? If all this is redundent, I apologize.:ukflag:

Hi,ye we are having the same problems. My AT PRO has already been in for a new PCB and coil checked out after the falsing issue, this was done in the UK.But i have been advised i can have the upgrade in the UK BUT NOT THE WARRANTY.I have emailed Brad at Garrett and he says the same thing.I have to ship back to America to get the warranty. This is going to cost a small fortune if customs get involved.I have just emailed customs to see if i can get round paying for the detector to enter the UK.I cannot understand why Garrett let UK companies work on the detectors but will not issue warranty without it going back to them.Dont get me wrong i wouldn't say a bad word about Garrett, there customer service cannot be beaten and i have three Garrett detectors and have been happy with them all.

I guess I don't understand Garrett's thinking.

I just wonder if it's cost effective on either end to ship the unit back a forth to the US. I think I'd ask Garrett to recommend a place to send the AT for repair in the UK. Maybe the warranty comes from the repair shop, there. OR ask for a warranty. "How long do you guarantee these repairs for?" For me, that would be a reasonable solution.

Basically, if you get the upgrade work done your pretty well covered as to what might go wrong with the unit in the future. If it is really expensive to ship the AT to the US, then save the excess cash (your not spending to ship) and should you need another repair, the cash is on hand.

My 2 cents.

Keep us posted.
