yep! Just like some will turn 90 degrees on a target and if the signal breaks they will walk off and leave it.

Well I am guilty as charged, but with my excuse LOL.
When I was much younger I would hunt 3-4 hours EVERY DAY after work and sun up to sun down, and longer, on weekends. Needless to say I was not a selective hunter then and would dig almost anything that made a noise because I had the time. I literally have boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff I haven't even looked at yet other than the moment I dug it. Coins dating from Roman 137 AD, to Spanish Reales, to capped bust, seated barber you name it, I've found it. At this point in my life my hunting time is very limited. And I do mean limited. So I have become much more selective on what I spend my valuable time recovering.
Ask yourself this. If you only had 30-45 minutes to hunt when you hunt, would you spend 10 minutes on a single target? If is doesn't repeat from all directions, with the expected intensity, then I move on. I average 3-5 targets a hunt and that is spending little time as possible checking it out. When I bend over I'm usually 98% sure it's for a coin or gold.

I get what your saying was just trying to show that there is some dangers in watching vdi numbers alone. Im a relic hunter for civil war era and before relics so vdis dont help me much, as the pro is not the detector I relic hunt with anymore. I take the remote off my machine and hunt relics by tone. I understand about some have limited time and have to be selective though but some trust the numbers way to much.

Why not use everything your machine is telling you? To me, they all work in concert with each other. Then it's decision time. My back is the first thing to tell me to dig or not.

I will answer your question here but this the garrett forum so ill be brief some detectors have such nuanced tonal systems that all the info I need is included in the type of tonal responce the machine gives on a target, so it sounds different on coins ( round objects) and higher conducters etc....very nuanced and a lot info in the tones so no need for vdi numbers for relics. Much like a experienced at user can glean a lot of info from the tonal responce it gives on a target apart from the vdi numbers.
