AT-Pro Screen Question

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'll ask it again. Has anyone ever got moisture under the decal on the screen of the receiver housing and had it make a line across the screen or something to that effect? I didn't know that there was a decal on it in the first place. It cost me a deal I was trying to make with a dealer in metal detectors that should be a "Pro". I was told by the "Pro" a Garrett tech told him that the internal screen would have to be replaced and it would cost 100.00 to 150.00 to do the work and unfortunately for me, that was a deal breaker. I was disappointed to say the least. I gave Garrett a call myself and told whoever answered the phone what was happening with my machine and he instantly told me what the problem probably was, and with 99% certainty according to him. He explained that with all the buttons on the face of the receiver that moisture sometimes gets in between the decal and the 100% waterproof receiver housing. By the way, Garrett is sending me a new decal with instructions on how to change it out. Here's a pic of what it looks like. It's not very good but you can see it running through the battery icon. Any input would be greatly appreciated and Thanks for looking.

Some of the ORIGINAL production run of the ATPro had a leakage problem and Garrett DID repair at no charge as they did with the falsing caused by the stock coil. Mine was one of them that suffered from both problems. Since the ATPro was repaired, it has been a great machine and has even found gold in the ocean!

If it is only the decal overlay and they are sending you one, fair enough. Just follow the direction to the letter. One hint I will offer is just like with tablet screen protectors, make sure you replace it in a lint free environment and do not create any dust while applying the decal. I would also wipe the OUTSIDE of the decal with 1/4 drop - very small amount of dish washing soap to remove any static electricity that would attract dust. DO NOT get any on the down side of the decal and rinse you hands before removing the decal's backing. You do not want to get ANYTHING on the down side of the decal before it adheres to the screen.

I had the same problem too. It start out with a small one in the middle. What's weird is I noticed it early in the morning while I'm detecting but as the weather warms up it goes away. We'll now it's gotten bigger and streaks across the screen (look carefully you'll see it run across the VDI indicator). It didn't bother me that much so I just left it alone. Now I guess I'll call Garrett. Thanks for the info.

I have the same problem called Garrett they told me the decal is touching the screen they sent me a new decal which I haven't put on since its not causing any problem thought I would save it until I really need it.

It's a bubble under the decal. There is a decal that sits on top of the actual LED readout. The best thing to do is ask Garrett for a new one. The old one is a little difficult to get off, but you can take a straight razor and slowly peel up one corner. Once it is off, clean off the actual plastic screen really good. Then put the new one on.

After you do that, you can put a cell phone screen protector over the decal - i just cut it to fit the clear part. it does great to protect it from scratching and helps with glare a little.

i hope that helps!
