But the find of the day was my hunting partners 1864L Indian head penny, a little tough to spot the L in the picture but it is there. I think it's time for a better camera any suggestions??

Great finds. I love finding Mercury Dimes and any old coinage, really, but something about Mercs in particular. It's such a beautiful coin.

I totally agree a mercury dime was the first silver coin I dug out of the ground 20+ years ago and to this day it is still my favorite coin.

Was looking at the coins again. Wow, 1864. The Civil War was going on when that was minted. Maybe some famous general carried it, or maybe even Lincoln before he was shot. In only 3 more years that penny will be 150 years old.

And the dime, minted in 1923, just 5 years after the end of WW I, and when Walt Disney was just learning how to make his first cartoons. In only 2 years, that dime will be 90 years old!

How cool is that?

You and your partner had a super day, I'd say. Those are both great coins to bring back to the light. I've yet to find a merc let alone an indian head.

Key and semi key are fun to find and verify. I can not see the "L", but the bust has that nice sharp point.
