Don't think its a real coin, but nice find none the less!

Looks like somebody crafted that 1873 coin with artistic liscensure!!! The date being under the eagle (reverse) instead of (obverse). The upward spread wings would have been on gold coinage at the time period (21/2 dollar and $10). The eagle on silver coinage (Sitting Liberty) at the time had down turned wings. The date should be where the monetary $$$ denomination would be during that period.

Wow!!!...Now if THAT does not get you a Pro Pointer, I would love to see the find that beat it...

HH,

Great finds... I agree the "$2 1/2" gold coin is fake, the 1873 date is on the wrong size and the denomination is missing.

I found an almost identical gold plate nugget style ring with a fake 1873 gold plate coin $2 1/2 size, this was a 2 tails side coin. This was 3 years ago at a big group hunt in Galveston Texas, I was jumping up and down like a crazy kid when I found it. Hollering for everybody to check it out. Then the gold plate started flaking off the coin and ring.

Never found a real gold coin. They are out there, keep on digging !

That Is great! Good going with the Atpro!
