AT Pro rods with cam locks

Two AT Pro's ....... can you spot the differences ?

The newer AT Pro with the cam locks -- The wobble has gone for me.

The lead to the headphones has been altered, there is some extra cable from the plug before it starts to coil up. Perfect !

The upper shaft of the rod, here you gain an extra 2 inches over the original shaft.

The middle shaft has had extra holes drilled for the locking tabs for the lower shaft.

The extra 2 inches in the upper shaft has helped me, I no longer feel so tired swinging the detector for over 4 hours per day. I'm 6'2" tall and I found that the original shaft was just too short in the upper section. I feel that Garrett could improve on the upper shaft by adding an extra 2 inches again in the near future.

Leaks -- So far both units have not leaked, so we are still waiting for that one.

Falsing issue -- Again, not had that problem yet with either unit.

Depth / depth readout issue -- No evidence of this at the moment.

Some salt beaches -- There is one beach that I have been to here in Maine, both units go nuts and sound off at the slightest movement. The sand is very white in color and fine. The are some rocks here too. No black sand, so I am thinking that the beach is very heavy in iron content. It is impossible to use the detectors at this beach, even with the sensitivity turned way down to 1 or 2 bars.

Other beaches here in Maine do not give off the above problem.

.....

Feel free to comment people.

That is a good looking pair of detectors. Am expecting mine back with upgrades in a day or so.

I think lots of folks (like myself) are wondering why some of the more obvious required upgrades weren't included in the original design of the unit. They seemed to delay the original release date to avoid such issues. It's gotta be costing Garrett lots in both money an time. It would be interesting (for lack of better word) to see how a company such as Minelab would have handled this situation. Their repair support issues are on a whole other level...and not in a positive way. Garrett has stepped up, no doubt.

How much longer do you think the headphone cable is now??

I've been holding off to send in my ATP, but heck that alone might be worth it to me

Thanks for posting on the changes!

I do not think that it was an issue before. The Ace series does not have cam locks and the arm rest is adequate for the smaller coils. However, the At Pro has a larger and heavier coil so balance became an issue for people like me who spent a lot of time rehabbing my shoulder. Garrett was just paying attention to input from the customers in the field which I think is very positive.
