AT Pro, relic hunting,

Bowie

New member
I havent posted on this forum or any forum for that matter in some time now, but still lurk around reading. I am just about to drop the coins on a MXT Pro. I wanted the MXT because of its two tone relic mode and disc abilities ( where I run just enough to disc out a nail, but do like the ability to open a detector up to all metal at times). Anyway I have applied the brakes for the moment since I have seen Keith Southern is using an AT Pro and he is a relic hunter. I dont want to have to continiously look at a screen relying on numbers, I want a machine that will talk to me, the signal , telling me you better slow down and check this out. I dont park or jewelry hunt much, my loss, I know, but I hate the modern trash.
So, anyone primarily relic hunting for old coins, relics, bullets in old sites using this machine I would love to hear from you, especially if you have used the MXT.
Many thanks to you guys,
and as always HH,
John
PS If I did purchase an AT Pro, I would want one that has been upgraded at the factory (new). Also, a smaller coil as well.

Bowie, I have not tried the MXT, but I have used the Teknetics T2, Fisher F-75, and several Whites machines including the DFX and the new V3i, all for relic hunting. All work well searching for relics. I purchased the AT Pro after trying one out and I am very happy that I did so. It works very well searching for relics. I am on a site here in Northern Virginia where there is not a lot of trash and the ground has not been disturbed since the late 1700s. In the past month I have found a lot of CW bullets, a 1799 large cent at 9 inches deep, a CW US belt buckle at 12 inches and a number of CW buttons all between 6-9 inches. One thing I especially like about the AT Pro is the signature sweet tone it gives off when it senses a good target. I will dig a target even when that tone is only intermittent or a faint chirp and 50% of the time the target is a good one. I also like the weight of the AT Pro, the accuracy of the coil and screen on size and depth of targets. From my experience this machine is as effective as the other machines I have tried out and it is easy to use and quick to learn. For what it is worth I do not think you will be disappointed if you go with this detector. Good luck and happy hunting. Mark

I have both, I've had my MXT for years and relic hunt a lot with it. I've been using my AT PRO lately going to colonial sites that I have pounded and coming out with more finds. NOT saying I will give up my MXT. but target separation in iron infested areas with the PRO is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I did go to a spot one time with a friend who has an MXT to compare detectors. He got a bullet signal and I went over it with the PRO"nothing, no beep". He told me if he really didn't know his MXT he would have never dug that target. I ended up finding more bullets then he did that day. I feel each detector has it's own advantages and disadvantages. I think you will be very happy with the AT PRO. I now have an AT GOLD to go with the AT PRO!!. H/H JOE in MD

The AT Pro is way less noisy, lighter, waterproof and cheaper. VERY deep machine. I have a great package on my site as well. Garrett AT Pro is an excellent relic hunter at 15khz.

Holler if you have questions or want a great deal on one! Thanks, Bart.
