AT Pro Really noisy

JamieR

New member
Hello all. I am new to this forum and find it very helpful. Has anyone that sent their AT in for the upgrade noticed that it was really chattery when they got it back? When i first got my AT Pro it was really quiet and ran smooth. I used it in an old field and it hardly made a noise until it hit a good target, My first old coin find was an 1877 indian head. Since i sent it out for the upgrade it has been really noisy. It makes noise all over in the same field that it was quiet in before. I have tried different freq,gb both auto and manual and turning the sens down. Still the same thing and Garrett tells me its normal. Anyone have the same problem or any ideas?

Thanks. Im going to have to call garrett and send it in again. My first AT was great and i only sent it in because i couldnt get it to work at all in wet beach sand. I guess i should have just kept the first one

I'd disconnect the cable and check the pins, then reconnect it. Make sure its tight.
Good luck,
Mike

Just got mine 2 weeks ago and it works great in the salt water very quiet .. I would send it back ...that is not normal ....

Where are you using yours in the salt water? Im in new england and heard that the salt water up here is hard on the vlf machines

My Detector acted up when I was detecting at the beach i was sitting there digging then out of no where CHATTER! I looked at the houses on the shore then I noticed a directional antenna point right at me! I assumed thats what it was then went down the beach a bit more. Trying to see if I would be out of its range and even switched frequencies a few times. Still chatter! I was like what the heck? Then it dawned on me. While I was digging my cell phone turned itself on in my pocket!!!! I turned it off and as soon as It powered off SILENCE!!!! IT is very important that you turn your cell phone off or leave it in your vehicle. I am sure many who are having issues already know this but maybe theres some people out there who keep their phone on them. It definately interferes with mine.

I'm sure you know this, but just to cover all the bases; You are holding the coil well off the ground when turning the unit on, right? I've noticed that in the trashy areas I often hunt, if I don't hold the coil well off the ground, it can go wacky on me.

[size=large]i too am having some problems with the machine just going spastic. thanks for all the tips to check on before i finally smack this thing against a tree. i am amazed at how well the ATP gets the coins in the middle of iron but when it goes off it's highly irritating. and i'll send it in before using a tree. can't afford to just throw 500+ bucks away.

thanks again.

You are probably getting EMI from power lines cell towers or equipment in the area. Mine did this number at the beach when I was near some wired in speakers near a Gazebo. I moved off about 20 yds and the noise disappeared. Also just because batteries are new doesn't mean they are fresh. Check the date on the package next time you buy batteries. You will be surprized at how old some of them are.

Reset the detector by holding down power until it double beeps and see if that helps, hank

I doubt my suggestion is your problem, but did u buy a new pair of boots with metal eyelets? Depending how u swing, that could make a lot of noise.
