AT Pro problem?

So now that the latest snows started melting I finally get a chance to try out my new machine. Problem is that the AT Pro seems to be falsing constantly. I run it in both std and pro mode, and unless I drop the sensitivity down to about 3 bars, it's constantly making low and mid tones. At full sensitivity it bounces numbers and tones randomly. Another problem is that it doesn't pinpoint well. In running tests with a known target, the machine will pinpoint inconsistently, often misidentifying the target location by more than 5 inches. Along with a known target the number will jump around quite a bit (like by 5).

I've tried auto ground balancing, reseating the coil connector, and ensuring the coil cord is wrapped correctly and I still have the problem. I've also got fresh batteries in the unit. In reviewing the Garrett videos, I believe I'm using it correctly and understand the operation. There's no overhead power lines, so while EMI can't be completely ruled out but I have my doubts.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Is the unit being overly sensitive or is it just me being overly sensitive?

Double check the coil connection plug is tight and that the chord is wrapped over the shaft clockwise and notthe too manybad wraps by thethe coil. like the directions say. Mine was loose.

make sure the coil connector is seated all the way..
take the coil cover and make sure the is no dirt,, if you use one..
try another coil,,,,sounds like a bad coil to me,,,I have had a new bad 4,5 and a stock coil that were bad...
You may have to send it in..

They give me more interference then overhead lines. In those situations, I also have to run my sensitivity around 3 bars. Try somewhere else where you are absolutely sure that there should be no EMI.

Thanks guys for the responses. Yes the coil plug is fully seated and the cable is wrapped around the unit correctly. I've even zip tied the cable to the shaft without effect.

Interesting idea on under ground utilities that run through my back yard. I was a little ways away but maybe too close yet. I'll try it today and keep my fingers crossed.

Believe me underground utilities will drive your Pro nuts. I have them in my yard. I cannot use any of my detectors in my yard.

Sounds like either that is your problem or you have a bad coil. Try getting a coil from someonebin your area, get away from your yard and check the coils out.

If that isn't it send it in while the snow melts.

I'm pretty convinced the problem was the underground utilities. Re-ground balanced on the other side of the house and most of the problem seemed to go away. Even found a penny in the front yard!!! Went to the back yard and it was a bit wonky again, but much batter.

Still having some trouble with pinpointing (working on a test coin, it's a bit inconsistent, sometimes triggering outside the coil then dead on when its inside the coil), but I'll mark that down as needing practice with the new machine.

Thanks again guys.

Try the frequency adjust. Maybe you'll be able to hunt the entire backyard. I have used the freq. adjust twice, once for overhead power lines and once for what I thought was underground and was able to keep hunting the area.
