AT Pro or GTI 2500

Just wondering which machine you think is better for coin hunting and Civil War relic hunting. I know the AT Pro seems to get 98 % of all the interest when discussing Garrett machines. However, the GTI 2500 used to be king of the hill and very little is ever spoken about that machine. I look at every found item in the Garrett Searcher magazine and most all finds are from the AT Pro. Did everyone put their 2500's in the closet? I own one and love everything about it. Am I missing something about the AT Pro ???

Thanks for your advice.

Mark

I have exactly the same question as Mark.

My GTI 2500 seems excellent -- sensitive, deep, accurate, and stable -- but I've never been able to compare it against an AT Pro.

I also have a Teknetics Gamma which is also a good machine. It's lighter than the GTI, but doesn't have the imaging of the GTI.

Both the GTI and Gamma get their action in parks. Both get used with 12-inch and 9-inch coils. The GTI has its Salt Mode so it also goes on the beach.

Any comparisons from folks who have used those detectors?

Cheers,

Joe

Garrett let me test the GTI 2500 back in the early 2000's. It had the white coil then. I was new to detecting and 3 companies let me test their machines and give them a beginner's perspective. . The machine was heavy, but amazing. To this day the pinpoint and depth were the most accurate of any machine that I have used. I rarely needed a pinpointer.

I had the GTI 2500 and sold it. I Wasn't a Garrett fan for almost 30 year because of that detector. I ended up buying the Garrett AT Pro a year ago and really love that machine. It has better depth, and the tone ID is great, I listen for that high tone in with the grunt or low tone. Dug many nail but always had a coin in the hole with the nail. Target ID may jump around but you will find the coins in with iron. With the right coil it will keep up with the $2000.00 machines. I'm talking about the Neil Storm coil. As far as the Garrett GTI 2500 they should have gotten rid of it 5 or so years ago when they came out with the Garrett AT PRO. I have the White"s V3i and the Teknetics T2 SE with DST and love these machine too. Everyone has ther own opinion, this is mine. Sorry if I offened anyone.

Your opinion is based on your experience, which is exactly what V. Digger is looking for. Nothing to be sorry for. Well done, sir!

I have both and consider each great machines in their own rite.
The Gti2500 is heavier and hence harder to swing for a long time...a bungy cord or harness will help with that though.
The Atpro is waterproof.
For absolute depth the 2500 is king especially in the all metal mode.
Many more bells and whistles on the 2500 which can make a big difference for some like adjustable volume and threshold.
It really depends on the type of hunting and where.
Either machine can and will get the job done.
