at pro or gold

Hey I am looking at getting an additional detector for my hobby. AT PRO OR AT GOLD. I will be also looking for peoples lost items rings, keys, phones,I own several other detectors. whites v3i,ace250,whites pi pro, headhunter wader, and all are really slow on recovery speed. I feel like i may be missing things.
1. i will be using it in red clay areas (southern red clay) topsoil varies from 1 in to 6 inches
2 fresh water hunts
3.extremely trashy areas
4. for old homesites
So my question is what is the better machine on platinum rings but also good for silver coins?and all that i have listed above.
and does the AT golds iron audio better??? I have seen several reviews that say the headphone plug areas are weak. not sure if this is from peoples rough treatment or just weak areas.
.Please let me know what works best for you and why.
Thanks

AT-Gold with 5x8" coil will suit your needs or a AT-Pro with 5x8" coil will work for you also. I use the Gold and love it. I had a AT-Pro originally and like the audio on the Gold a little better.

Go to the Garrett Site and look at the comparison chart for the AT series should answer all your Questions . Also curious as to why the V3I you have is slow recovery speed as a friend I hunt with sometimes owns one and it seems to have a very fast recovery speed . I use to own an Ace 250 and it seemed to recover pretty fast only two things I did not like was the color and that feaking Bell Tone . I wish they would have left if off the AT series in Standard mode but thats just My Humble Opinion!

I have compared the 2 on the garrett website several months back, but wanted to hear more from weekly users.I have owned my v3i and ace 250 and have tested them on areas with heavy iron and the recovery speed sucks my pi machines are probably faster. I get out several times a week even in winter time so i have alot of hours on both. I was thinking the AT Gold would be better but still wanted to hear from you users.
thanks jason73

I have both and for the type of hunting that you mention, I would go with the AT Pro. Order a 5x8 coil for it, and have a look at some underwater 'phones. I have, use and really like the Grey Ghost Amphibians. Good for both land and water. The 5 x8 coil is great in the water and those trash filled spots. It gives excellent seperation to ferret out good targets amonst a lot of junk. The ATP has a broader high tone area than the ATG making it better IMHO when looking for coins and silver. It's no slouch on getting gold either. You can do a search for posts by me over the last 2 years and judge that for yourself. If you were a relic hunter or gold prospector, I would go with the AT Gold. It's broader mid-tone range and true all metal and adjustable threshold are ideal for that those types of hunting. Just my 2.5 cents worth!!

What I've seen on the videos, the Pro does not do as well in iron audio on bottle caps. Now the coils size may make a big difference, I don't know. The Gold is definitely more sensitive to the lower conductivity items and that would include platinum. The ground balance is more suited for mineralized ground. It does not do as well on silver compared to gold, but it still hits deep silver. Add to that the All Metal mode which is deeper and has the ground balance window. If you haven't watched the free Garrett videos on the AT Gold, check out their website.

Both the AT Series are good for what you are searching for. The AT Gold will get you a little more depth over the Pro, if that means a whole lot to you. You can program the AT Pro for many different types of targets and environments, the AT Gold programs are pretty well preset.

I also forgot to mention the AT Gold has an adjustable threshold that even goes into the negative numbers. This can really help in areas with lots of crackling noise.

Thanks for the info
Now i just have to find One at a real good price[. Im leaning more to the gold but may go for the pro if i can get a great price on one. /center]

You got great advice here - I especially agree with Big Cat Daddy. I have the ATPro and love it. That V3i can be adjusted for a fast recovery, lower numbers on the recovery speed setting will change it (speed it up) dramatically.
