At Pro or Gold

I live in Springfield Illinois and I do Coin/Jewlery hunting with some relic, No nugget hunting, Would the Gold still be a better choice for this or should I stay with the pro?
Thanks

The AT Gold has the true all metal mode which = a little more depth, however, the AT Pro allows you to remove notches to make your hunts a little more selective......A tough choice. I own both and like my AT Gold in the woods better, as the targets are fewer so I want to hear all of them. I use the true all metal mode.

AT Gold 18 kHz frequency for tiny low conducting gold bits and better ground balance for gold hunting on highly mineralized ground.

AT Pro 15kHz frequency better for deeper ground penetration on coin size objects like silver, brass and such..........can also be used on mineralized gold fields and ocean beaches.......with relative ease.

There are a number of short YouTube video where AT Pros are used on Western Australian gold fields.........conditions very unfriendly to most VLF detectors.

By calling it "True All Metal Mode", it just means that you don't have the option of notching-out unwanted targets. If you were to run the AT Pro wide open with no disc. isn't that the same thing ?

No, not really. True all metal with a threshold allows you to pick up on the smallest of signals, ones that just make the Thresh. slightly change tone. That's something you need when you are searching for tiny nuggets. You won't get that with a Zero Disc, non-threshold setup.

If you read the owners manual on the Garrett website, the AT Gold in DISC 1 filters out some of the ground. That adds up to about 2 extra inches in All Metal Mode. But like others have said, it will overwhelm you in trashy areas. It might not go quite as deep as a pulse machine, but you have the Iron Audio. Also there are several videos to watch for free.

At Pro will fill the bill. All Metal can come in handy for relic hunting when you dig it all but for park or yard hunting the Pro is the way to go .More of a all around unit.

How well does the Pro 8.5x11 coil do, is it a good all around coil and add the 5x8 for more trashy area's?
thanks again for all the input.
Its been about 2 yrs since I did any digging . I had a Whites 9000 pro SD and a DFX stolen, Had the DFX for about a month and someone got it in the middle of moving, But I got that itch and need to get back out there again.
Thanks again for the info

The AT Gold is more machine. It's a newer design than the Pro. When you hit a hot area with good targets this is where you want to dig everything anf where the All Metal mode excells. There is definitely a learning curve. I kinda suspect some people might not want to take the time to really learn what those deep targets sound like. A faint, short blip that has a springy tone, it's like it tries to "catch up". These are the targetrs too deep to ID but they can be the real old, good ones the other detectors missed. I don't mean to criticize, but I saw on the Diggers TV show they were not finding the deep targets that most certainly were there.
