AT Pro or AT Gold

What would be a better choice for hunting FRESH WATER lakes.
The ATGOLD or the ATPRO.

I know people do real well with both machines but I would like to
hear some thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Owning both and using them a lot in freshwater, my vote goes to the AT Pro. I really like to use the 5 x 8 coil in the drink too. Much easier to push than the stock coil. Just my 2 cents worth!!

I use the At-Gold and at one time had both I like the tones on the Gold better and it seems to lock on to targets better the VDI don't bounce around as much. Either one of them is a excellent machine they will get the job done but the gold gets the nod for me.

hmm good question here. I asked myself the same thing before purchasing the At pro. I don't live in a state that has any gold in the ground so I went with the At pro knowing that it would still pickup on the gold because of the higher operating freq (15 khz). I'm not sure how much the At gold (18khz) operating freq would differ on stuff like silver but it probably makes at least some difference on gold targets... Then again they are only 3 Khz from each-other as far as frequencies so... I'm going to go with it probably wont matter too much but I tend to lean toward the At pro unless I'm in an area that has the potential to yield gold nuggets :) then by far get the At gold

Sorry for the long answer

Never swung the gold model but for any water now I just use the Seahunter MK11. The Pro did work well in fresh water but I firmly believe that any salt water a PI machine is the way to go.

Bouys get too wrapped up about digging trash on a swish......man just dig it all!

Happy TD Yanks.

You must have some pristine swim areas to hunt. I've unleashed the SH Mk II in some of mine and spent the day chasing bits of wire and nails and screws. I must say though, when I was done, there wasn't one thing left in the area for my AT Pro to find. But my arms, back and knees paid the price!!

I use an AT Gold w/8.5x11 coil in freshwater alot and on dry land also (more water hunting than dry ground), I really like the 18khz freq, it works great around here. I like it so much, I sold my ctx and excals and use the AT Gold exclusively now (*except for diving >10ft, cz21). It will easily find stuff around iron that other machines miss. The iron audio is indispensable, ...can't beat it for the price too!

If your old like me, 71, You can only dig so many holes,, so why waste time on trash..
I use to dig iron and everything above iron,, in all that time,,may be one or 2 good targets
were dug that my unit said was trash.....I love the Iron disc. and Iron Audio.....

I have the AT Gold and 2 AT Pro's,,, I like the AT Pro better,,but not by much....
I never use the STD. mode,, and wish it was not on my AT Pro,, in its place,
the all metal mode and the threshold mode from the Gold instead...
If you hunt in the STD. mode,,why not just buy a Ace 250,, the Pro mode is
deeper and you get more help with the iron disc and audio.....

My favorite coils are the 5x8,,4.5 SS,8x11 and the 6x9...
The 5x8 and the 4.5 super sniper coils have made my best finds,,but, it just depends on where
you hunt,,,I like trashy areas,, because some people will shy away from them,, here..
If I hunt a area to trashy to GB,,I can put 80 on my Pro and 50 on my Gold and hunt,, love that manual GB..

It all depends on what and where you hunt and like best,,the gold comes stock with the 5x8 coil and the Pro comes stock with the 8 x11'' coil...
I like the DD coils over a Con. coil...With the same size coil,, the Gold might be a inch or two deeper....

Good luck with what ever you pick,, I have used a lot of other units and have other units,,
2 At Pro's,,AT Gold,,GTI 1500,,Explorer SE Pro, F-75 ltd,. CZ 3d and a I. D. Edge,,,
and I grab the AT pro with the 5x8 coil...or the gold with the 4.5" coil....

Both great machines. For all around id get the Pro because you can hunt beaches as well. But if i was gonna go nugget hunting for example alot id get the At Gold.
Ive noticed alot of good machines are around 14 to 15klhz frequencies. 18klhz wich is the At Gold is also good though might be slightly more suited for nugget hunting and raw gold because of the higher frequency.
