AT PRO or ACE 350 w/ extra Sniper Coil ?

Retired Digger

New member
I am new to the forum and have learned a great deal since following it a few months ago. I have read so much that I am now throughly confused. I have a new AT Pro on order and it should ship in the next ten days. I should first state that I have been metal detecting casually for the past ten years with a Whites Classic ID. I have a rekindled interest for detecting and have been very active this past six months, but now I am ready to upgrade my equipment. The Classic ID has been a great machine and lived up to everything it was designed to do. My detecting will primarily be at parks, old farms, homesites, and a little knee deep fresh water detecting. I am getting second thoughts that maybe I should get an ACE 350 and the extra sniper coil and that it would better fit my needs. I am absolutely open to any and all opinions. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

You do not mention financial concerns in your post. If you can swing the price of the AT Pro vs the ACE 350, I would most certainly go with the AT Pro.

Even though it is reported to be a powerful machine, you can always run less sensitivity on it to suit your needs.

It should hold it's value even better than the ACE 350

Good luck with whichever choice you make. Both are capable of making good finds for you

I cannot think of anything that the 350 will do that the At Pro will not do.

However, I can think of quite a few things that the At Pro will do that the 350 will not. Also, you can make the At Pro act pretty much like the 350 of you want. If money is not the deciding factor then I would weigh these issues.

Good Luck whichever way you decide.

Another thing you want to consider is that the At pro is water proof, where as if your wading in knee deep water and happen to drop the 350 it may not recover.I got lucky and was able to bring my 250 back to life when I dropped it in a creek. I am dieing to do some fresh water hunting so the at pro is next on my list Best of luck with what ever you decide!!:detecting:

:usaflag:I remember you telling us that Blade. Yes, you got extremely lucky.

Unless you specifically need all the power and sophistication of the AT the 350 should suit your needs as long as you don't get the control box wet when water hunting. Of course the AT is actually two detectors in one. In the Standard mode it will perform basically the same as the 350. If cost is an issue that's one more reason to go with the 350 and for just general hunting it should serve you well plus leaving a few bucks left over for any extras you may wish. Like the 250 it is a real coin magnet and even moreso with the added features which turns it into a "souped up" 250.

And if you find it isn't exactly your cup of tea you would have no problems peddling it. It's just a matter of personal choice based on what you will hunt and where you will hunt and how much detector you really need.

I want to thank all of you that replied to my post. I will have a lot to learn, but I am going to stick with the AT PRO. If I got the ACE 350, I would probably want to upgrade in a year or two. Once again, thank you all for your help.

I'd go AT because if I didn't, I would have that hanging in the back of my mind not having the latest crave.

I used several Classics through the years. C3, ID and IDX. All good machines. They have a modulated tone. Your Ace 350's tone will be either on or off. Basically sounding the same on small, big, deep or shallow targets. The ATpro in the Pro mode has a modulated tone. This will be more like what your used to. Plus you running the chance at dropping your 350 in the water. The ATpro will have a lot of powerful features the 350 doesn't have. Don't have second thoughts. PS: The Garretts have notch discrimination. In my opinion a lot better than the Classics variable disc. I didn't think I would like the notch discrimination but I love it.

Do not totaly agree with this, Jerry.
Here is why ...
The ACE 350 runs at 8 Khz whle the AT PRO runs at 15Khz.

So the Ace 350 could / should do a little better depth on coins and other high conductive items.

You may have a point. The At Pro seems to favor the lower conductivity targets. Just like a 14.5 Khz Tesoro does. However I am liking the reports that are coming in so far. We are froze up in the north country so I will have to wait until spring to find out :(

Since you have already ordered the AT Pro, You will have the Ace 350 in standard mode and the Pro in Pro mode. The only difference will be the lower freq in the 350 and the higher freq in the Pro. So it looks like you have your bases covered with one machine.

Hey, Im in a similar situation as you are, new to detecting and just recieved an AT Pro yesterday. Reading the manual and setting it up and will go out Fri, Sat and Sunday with it and see just how rich this this is going to make me. I will post updates of what I find, the settings I use and my overall feeling of how friendly the AT Pro is to newbies like us.
