AT Pro on the Saltwater Beach....

grumpysrb

New member
I used my new AT Pro for the first time today. Hunted over a sports field I had hunted before with my ACE 350 and found a few more coins. Now I'd like to hit the wet sand at the beach. The reason for getting the Pro.(felt like I was missing something with the 350).

Can some of you give me tips. How to setup the machine and what to expect? How much more can I expect to find?

hello grumpysrb, i dont know where you are located or what beaches you will be hitting but im on the west coast in cali. and bought my at pro purely for beach use cause i didnt want to take a fall or accidentaly drop my tdi pro into the drink but it is totally useless in the wet sand or in the water, this is in long beach ca. there is a lot of mineral/black sand here and i have tryed every setting possible watched every video for use in salt water and nothing seems to work all i get is the sound of finding a quarter on every square inch of the beach i have given up on it. works great on the dry sands, dirt parks etc. but so does my tdi so i was a little dissapointed with it. now i know why it said "fresh water use recomended" i hear a lot of people from the east coast do not have a problem with it. now i wish i would have gotten the ATgold at least i could use it in streams and creeks without fear of dropping it in by accident oh well live an learn. good luck to you on your beach use.

Thanks for that link on Ground Balance Im going to Puerto Rico Jan 17th for 2 weeks. Was suppose to be a golf outing. with 3 other guys. Now I have an AT PRO just started about 2 months . Found 1 1921 merc dime and am hooked. Have never been to a beach. I am very excited about going detecting on the beach. Now golf may have to wait. PS ( snowing like hell here in Northeast Pa.)

I spent several hours on the beach today. First time with the AT Pro. Having a ACE 350 made the Standard Mode a snap. Understanding the tones in Pro Mode will take a little time and practice. I tried the wet sand but ended up on dry sand flipping between modes.

Took the pro to the mouth of the San Bernard where it meets the Gulf. Hunted the wet sand to a half mile inland and it did well. Not sure how salty the water is, probably brackish. You could see the tide coming in and when I left it was riding on top of the outgoing water. Didn't have any issues. Ground balances regularly and hunted in Standard and Pro modes. Nothing good, a bunch of fishing weights though. A couple were 4 and 6 inches deep.

Next I'll hunt the Gulf beach to see how the ATP does there.

i use my at pro stickily on the beach in the wet as well as the dry sand and have never had a problem,i have a stack of gold and silver jewelry to show for it,ether you have a defecting machine or not taken the time to learn how to use it,take my word for it i have found guarders as far as 10 to 12 inches in the wet sand.

Did you read my post? I'm learning at my own pace.

Made it back to the beach today, and hope to hit a different spot tomorrow.

I tried very wet saturated sand again today and seem to do better I think. Didn't find anything so I'm not sure. Did find some coins in the wet or dry sand. Had trouble with waves coming in, another rough surf. If I can I will go to an area with wide shallow areas and the wind will be blowing out.

Did notice that a Zincoln in very wet sand had a somewhat erratic signal.

Believe I had a Blondie moment today. When I first tried the ATP on the beach I went to the same well used beach I always go to. I was confused by all the almost constant chatter.

Today I went elsewhere, a little used beach. First thing I noticed was the almost non-existent chatter. When further down, to a more used part of the beach, and behold, even more chatter.

Went to the fishing pier, knowing it would have a lot of metal around (tons of bottle caps)and realized. The chatter was deep metal, too deep in most cases for the vdi. DUH! Enlightenment!!!
