AT Pro: Is Lots of Chatter in Pro Mode Normal?

I've been using my AT Pro for the last few days and noticed there is a lot of chatter in pro mode. Standard mode is quiete but when I switch to Pro it sounds erratic. I've turned sensitivity down, checked cables, batteries and everything. Not sure if this is normal opperation or if something is wrong. If there is trash in the area it's like I get rogue audio signals from the descriminated zones popping up here and there and the target id number jumps all over the place. Is this normal?

On a good note the thing goes DEEP. I went over a very well detected beach and was digging beer tabs at 10+ inches even with all the chattering going on.

I heard some chattering on it also in one of the videos on youtube about the AT Pro. It has a high gain, Im guessing this might be why. The F75 does the same thing.

In the PRO mode you do hear a lot of ground chatter.
Your brain will get used to it and process it out after a while.

I wonder if any depth or sensitivity is lost silent hunting in Standard mode.
In Pro mode are you hearing all the weak signals that do not break the threshold or meet the processing criteria of Standard mode?
I think a test should be done to see which mode can actually detect the deepest.
In Pro Mode can you really hear a faint signal from a deep target and recognize it as such mixed in with all the ground chatter?

I've never used the AT Pro, but if it's like all the other detectors I've tried, chatter is part of the game when looking to maximize depth using sensitivity. Learning to work with a certain amount of chatter IS learning to maximize your detectors depth ability.

If the gain and sensitiviy is higher in Pro mode, than the standard mode, then it's not a matter of DEEPER ....It's more a matter of which mode is better suited for the soil conditions where you are hunting .....If the soil is highly mineralized , all the gain and high Sensitivity in the world will not penetrate it running a single frequency machine , and you will have to adjust for the conditions .... Too much gain and Sensitivity will give you the "Headlights in the fog " syndrom .... You're defeating the purpose ........ Sometimes less is more ......Less sensitivity will get the surface and shallow targets out of the way to be able to go deeper for other targets...If it's a matter of mineralized soil , you're out of luck ... ....Jim

Y'all remember when I used to call my Scorpion 'Chatty Cathy'? It drove me nuts for awhile..but I learned how to 'tune' it out (ignore it) and quickly began to tell good signals from chatter. The AT in PRO mode is the same way..but stick to the rules, strong, repeatable signals get dug! If your ID is jumping all over the place reduce sensitivity. You should see a reduction in chatter as well.

I was water hunting for about and hour and then spent 10 minutes on the sand before it got dark. Within 10 minutes I dug three consecutive beer tabs (newer style) that were around 10" deep. Basically I just set the sensitivity on max and then listened for faint consistant signals in Pro mode. There was a lot of chatter and the target id was giong bannans but I only dug the ones that were consistant. By consistant I mean the signal was slightly more prominant (louder or longer) than the chatter and also I could receive the signal when passing over the object both ways.

The reason i'm excited about the beer tabs is because a beer tab will read exaclty the same signal as some small gold rings about the size of an engagement ring =) My wife and I have a lot of gold rings and after bench testing I discovered that they will read anywhere from 43 to 58 on the target id depending on the size. The fact that I'm pulling tabs from 10" when the place has been heavily detected tells me that there is a lot of potential in this machine. I guess i'll just have to get used to all the chatter.
