AT PRO INTERNATIONAL. ..QUESTION?

Hi all..only had the detector a few days and seems pretty good upgrade from my euroace... could someone please explain to me what proportional audio means when I'm using it in pro mode .....? I'm a bit baffled as to what it means ..thanks all

The ATX operates with a continuous audio that responds proportionately to
the target's signal strength (i.e. large/strong signals sound loud and small/
weak signals sound faint). This enhances the ability to hear faint targets,
and better judge a target's size, shape and depth.
In addition to enhancing faint target signals, the ATX's proportional
audio also allows the operator to hear faint background noise. By their
nature, high-performance pulse detectors are often noisier than VLFtype
detectors; therefore, some minor audio noise/chatter is normal. An
experienced operator will learn how to distinguish random background
noise from repeatable target signals.

Proportional Audio mode means simply that the loudness of the sounds varies with the distance of the coil from the target and/or the size of the target.
So, if you take a coin and pass it 2 centimeters from the coil, it will sound louder than when you pass it say 8 or 10 centimeters from the coil.

There are a few advantages to it. I use my AT Pro exclusively in the Pro modes now. Although when I started I tried out the Standard modes
for a few times out, then switched to the Pro modes.

Pages 15-17 in the International Pro manual explains it all...

Proportional Audio (Pro Mode)
Proportional audio response means that the loudness
of the target's response is proportional to a target's signal
strength. This allows the user to hear subtle changes in a
target’s response. Proportional audio response also allows
the user to better judge a target’s size, shape and depth
and has the additional benefit of faster recovery time for
separating adjacent targets.
