AT Pro in different soils

Coinseeker 78

I have just about decided to purchase a Garrett AT Pro detector for a backup to my F70. My questions are, How well does the AT Pro work in wet and dry sand compared to the F70/75 Fisher? Also, How well does the AT Pro work around EMI and highly mineralized soil compared to the F70/75 detectors. Thanks in advance.

I have an Omega, and my AT Pro is superior when it comes to EMI, at same locations. I believe the Omega is reputed to be more EMI resistant than F75 & F70.

My soil is moderately mineralized (75 -80) and I can run max sensitivity, stabile, with good depth (at least equal to Omega). I have dug a few dimes at 9 or so inches...proper ID and soft, repeatable high tone in Pro mode, stock coil. Up to 7 or 8" inches, it will hit coins hard...strong tone and accurate VID. Many will say it is deeper in wet ground, but last summer was damp here, so I did not encounter bone dry ground yet. AT should be a nice complimentary machine for you, plus the waterproof factor, if you are out in iffy weather. AT Pro shines in older, iron trash sites. I was sold by Keith Southern's posts...he is an experienced relic hunter, hunts in worse ground than mine, and he has made many positive posts about the AT Pro.

Thanks for the information. I am convinced the AT Pro is the way to go and am ordering it with the stock coil and the 5X8. Happy hunting!!!

AT is VERY stable in most environments I have had it in...This is not to say I have not had troubles GBing it in some spots...This is usually due to the fact that there is can slaw or other trash everywhere and it is hard to find a barren spot of dirt...Sometimes I GB right over the can slaw...this usually saves me from digging it, but I wonder if it is a good thing...I have 0 problems with the Pro around overhead power lines or nearby radio towers...This kinda surprised me, as all my Whites machines went nutz around these...

HH,

I used my PRO in VA relic hunting in the hot red dirt...ALL Metal Pro, sensitivity down a couple notches...I found the ground was always changing so I had to GB manualy often. If a target seemed to make the VDI bounce around quite a bit I'd find a good spot off to the side, re-ground balance then re swing the target, it would calm the machine down and give me better readings. I also found the AT don't like fast in minerlized soil...slow and low gave me my most consistant numbers...JMO, good luck!

(I used my AT Pro exclusively on a 10 day relic hunt and left with as many good civil war relic finds as the pulse machines fella's in my group were finding)
