AT PRO If you had it all over to do again

would you still buy the AT PRO ? What I'm reading is, nice depth, good in STD mode, wet salt sand, terrible, pinpointing not great. I have one ordered, but having 2nd feelings. Also not sure how it's been in salt water. And the PRO mode does not seem to be a favorite. I want this to work for me, I'll be wading in lakes mostly, but need it for the beaches also. The water proof is a big plus, but don't want my ears all tied up in knots when I'm done for the day. So wadda ya guys think. I still have time to cancill.

Before I got my Ace 250 I had never ever used any Garrett machines. I mostly used Whites. I was sick of the weight and decided to wet my feet in the Garrett line with the Ace 250. I will tell you that there was a lot of difference. I biggest being in the tones. Bing, bong and ding. I first thought I made a big mistake in my purchase. But I kept at it. Wouldn't you know that I started to leave my heavy big box machines home. Hunting was fun again! If your coming from another brand and the ATPro is your first Garrett then it's all going to be different. Just give it some time and I'm sure it will grow on you.

Regardless of what detector you buy you are going to have to learn that machines pluses and minuses that relate to your area and your hunting style. I will say if you have second thoughts now you will probably not be satisfied. These guys and gals that have learned Garrett machines over the years will like the ATPro. If this is someones first machine or they are changing brands there is going to be a learning curve. My experience of 40+ years is get what you can afford and take time to learn the machine. Cost of a detector does not find anything experience of the user is what produces results.JMHO

I should have added I've been hunting since 2000 and only with Garretts The 1000, the 1500 @ the Ace 250. like every one of em, the 1500 is to me very hard to beat for coins, not water proof tho. Also a great pinpointer.

Consider that most of us only have a few hunts in with the AT! This detector is exactly what Garrett said-a NEW machine. It does have components of the familiar ACE, but that seems to be where it ends! Well, if you don't count the pole..lol, which is a wee bit short for my taste. Now that's my only real complaint but I DO know how to fix that!

Just remember when you get it-don't crank the sensitivity!

I cannot imagine what it would take to make me sorry that I bought an At Pro. As I make that statement, I am still waiting to receive mine! I base my opinion on the sample of the three Garrett detectors that I am familiar with. Master Hunter 7 ADS, Grand Master Hunter and the Ace-250. I read every word of the catalog they put out in early October and pre ordered one on that basis. The videos and field reports that I have been reading since convince me that the performance is better than what I have now. I have done very well with the Grand Master Hunter so I am not worried.

Even if the At Pro does not function properly, I have no doubts at all that Garrett will make it right. They restored my Grand Master Hunter which was built in 1987 to near new condition for about a hundred dollars and returned it to me in ten days. Great service!

Happy Thanksgiving

I would in a heartbeat, I have been out several times with mine and realize right up front that the machine has limitations, as do all machines including the $1500 ones ( I owned a V3).
But for the money it is a real improvement on the Ace series of detectors(which I really like), and with some field time this might turn into my new favorite detector.
I would say that if you are looking for a detector that will "do it all" you're going to be looking for a while, but this is a great all around versitile machine and will cause me to put my MXT Pro down, for a little bit anyway.

I started with the ace 250. I generally used a 10x14 in parks. I will say at this point that I was always amazed at the stock coils. The old lady at the time did quite well with hers I often confused the depth with multiple tones but found alot of coin. I got an explorer xs that had smartfind and vid. That considerably reduced my diging junk and started finding rings and jewlry. I often wandered how I could develop the ace to work better for me.As soon as I heard the AT would have tone roll, numerical vid and better seperation and faster recovery speed. I jumped. Just 5 more busines days I was hoping for a better offering in salt water (still waiting on better news from the field).

If all fails I can always get another explorer, e trac or an xcalibur for the water.

Well guys I took mine to myrtle beach today it worked fine in wet sand I manual gb'd at 20 in pro mode and went to waste deep in the surf but the water was COLD and I was only out for about 5 min but it was silent except when I scraped the bottom it would sound off,and did I say I only had the pro no scoop so it was a check to see if it would work in the surf I was sure relieved.
