At Pro how deep have you gone ?

youdig

New member
Has anyone been brave enough or silly enough to take the At Pro beyond ten feet I know that is the max depth ?
Just wondering

I am curious as well!

Most likely when these Pro's were engineered, some destructive testing was done and one might 'assume' they dont fail right at 10'...probably more like 15 or perhaps a bit more, but like most mfgs, a person does not want to state that...just set a parameter with 1/3rd cushion to avoid any large warrantees...All this said, it would be interesting to see the exact destructive tests, like heat/cold/depth, etc...One could suspect detecting in 15' of water as long as the box is @13' and not flat on the bottom...I suppose If I was going to attempt this, I'd lather up those orings pretty good with some heavy grease like a fellow uses on outboard motor or wheel bearing orings...might even put a small float on the handle where your arm goes through the strap, and instead of putting your arm through the strap like conventional sweeping, grip the rig on the lower shaft down by the coil so the box is floating above you?

Didja find anything at the bottom of that waterfall?

First of all, it's very difficult to answer that question, if not impossible. The answer really is "it depends"

The following all play a significant role, and in combination will always give varying results:

-size of a target-> the larger the target, the deeper a target can be recognized.
-conductivity-> aluminum vs. copper vs. gold. vs. iron vs. silver. Some rings, with size & mass being equal can be detected deeper then others.
-size of coil-> general rule says "larger coil = deeper depth however, add a lot of conductive particles, metal junk and high mineralization to the matrix, and the large coil becomes redundant.
-type of coil-> DD vs.concentric vs. mono. Each coil has a definite advantage over the other under different conditions
-frequency of signal from coil-> higher frequency usually (but not always) is more sensitive to tinier objects.
-VLF vs. Pulse Induction-> Pulse induction can easily pick up a dropped mini or gold ring with a medium sized coil 15-20" whereas a VLF might get about half that all other things being equal.
-Humidity, moisture in soil, orientation of target to the coil
--ability of the to perceive the receiving frequency from a coil and distinguish it's conductivity, depth, size etc.
-operator - properly setting up the electonic components based on knowledge and experiences

There are many more variables in involved affecting depth.....the above are just some of the more obvious ones. So really, YOU need to figure out what you are looking for ie. relics vs. jewelery vs. common coins vs. deep copper/silver coins. You also need to know the soil conditions and other factors in YOUR area where you are going to hunt.

Ha, got you too, John. I started to post my deepest find with the A T and after reading Muds comments realized youdig was talking about water depth and the A T Pro. My 9" would have sounded a little silly. Or a lot silly. HH jim tn

Thanks mudpuppy that's what I was thinking I was kind of pushing the depth limits and I did put some silicon grease around the o rings and all was good.
I didn't find anything yet hard work going up and down holding my breath I will go back with a scuba tank.
I did however after that site go to some old abandoned mines and found a miners pick hammer over 100 years old I am trying to restore it .

Thanks John that's great information I give the AT PRO a ground balance and listen to the signals I have only used this detector twice and I'm still getting use to it.

:rofl:n:rofl::rofl:

I got a call from the Chinese consulate requesting that I stop turning on my ATP. Apparently I have been sterilizing folk at start up.
Hey John, can you tell me about the little dog tag in your pic ?, I've found three of those things now, exactly the same.
