AT Pro Headphones wiring ?

BarryL

Active member
any wiring diagrams for three wire headphones want to put a new 1/4 inch jack on a set of Garrett Headphones that come with an AT Pro but the pin broke on the plug so they are not useable

I took those stock garrett land phones I got with the pro, cut off the garrett plug, and soldered on a length of wire with a 90 degree male stereo jack to use on a diff machine...is that what you want to do? There were only 2 wires I think...I bought a 3' length of 1/4" male to male right angle plugs and it worked great, I added extra length so I could stand up and have all sorts of cable, I sent the other end to a member here so he could do the same..
...Do I understand you right? I now have a AtPro garrett plug that I intend to solder on a straight female 1/4" plug so if I ever want to use the phones other than the garrett waterproof blues, I got something...
Mud

Yes Mud that is what I want to do but there are three wire in the cord Black, white ,Red I could not get the other connector apart to see how it was wired I assume it has something to do with being able to use stereo or mono either

Barry! I am so sorry, you are right!

3 wires, red, black white..and yes it has to do with making sure you get a STEREO male plug...it has 3 wires too...and I think they are the same colors! I had no trouble at all...super easy to do this mod!...I got that double stereo plug with 3' of wire set up from an outfit called B&H Photo on the internet..I think it cost me like 2 dollars? It was cheaper than buying an individual plug! and, you could add as much length as you want...real cheap, postage was more than the product...then I got some little shrink wrap tube package from the local Hardware hank...I used two little tiny ones inside, and one long one to cover the whole mess on the outside...and I also staggered my wire length so that none of the soldered joints were next to each other... it was a fast and easy mod, clean looking, since the soldered ends were staggered over a few inches..good thing about adding wire...if you think its too long, just throw a loop in it and tape it...headphone wires are generally too short anyway..

Hi,
One wire will be for your left speaker
One wire will be for your right speaker
One wire will be common ground
Use an AA cell and the process of elimination to find out which wire is the common ground - your speakers will crackle when you just touch the wire to the cell.

I never totall completed the 700 conversion....after my mod I found out that not having
the drivers close to my ears like on the stock 700's caused a significant decrease in
volume and performance over the standard 700 tdks...I'm going to get an AT Pro in the
near furture and do more modifying on the TDK 700's to work on the AT Pro so I wont
have to deal with a hard wire....Thinking about waterproofing theTDK transmitter fastened to
a new garrett connector.

@duggr ,many thanks for the update on your TDK700 project.

Regards from the UK

I just took apart a Garrett connector on a pr of DP AMPH. headphones and checked the wiring.
Since the plug has two pins. A multimeter was used to see what wired connected to what pin.
Found one pin the black and red wire was connected to.
The other pin had the white wire connected to it.
I don't have the connector in front of me to be able to tell you what wires went to what pin.

BY looking at the schematic sent with the Plug "HAHA"

I recently got an AT gold and have been trying to ditch the garrett headphones and go with something a little smaller, I didn't realize that it would be such a chore but I think I am almost there.
I bought an connector that came from a pair of garrett submersible headphones and it has 4 wires... red, white, black and bare.
Used a multimeter to determine that the red and black wires connect to the outside pin, the white wire connects to the center pin... don't know what the bare one dose.
Did a test hookup with the red to ring, white to tip and black bare or both to ground.
I get really low volume in one ear.
Have tested on 2 sets of phones and the low side just switches if I switch tip and ring connections.
any Ideas what the bare wire is for or why I'm getting low volume from one speaker?
Thanks for all your help so far

Try Red to (Tip) Black to (Ring) and white to (Sleeve) stranded wires are
shield. I cut them off so they wont touch any metal, otherwise it will cause a problem like you
described....I think this is correct...I'm tired (1am) hopefully someone will chime in and
correct me if i'm wrong....Duggr

Thanks for the help, it works perfectly hooked up like that. I bought 2 of those connectors off ebay... now I'm gonna have to try and make a waterproof version.

Are You twader_joe ?
If so, I'm the guy you purchased the Connectors from...

one and the same... nice to meat you duggr. Great forum going on here, hope I can do something to help in my own way.
