AT Pro ground balance to high??

spiral

New member
Just got a new AT Pro so I took it for a quick spin in the yard.My ground balance was 80/81 and on the same ground my Omega is 55/56.Shouldn't they ground balance around the same if its the same ground or is it machine specific? I'm in northeast Tn and I just don't think the ground is that hot.Seem like I had a little bit of falseing to and the sensitivity did not make a difference or the freq....Opinions??

lower 2 bars sensivity and move around, keep falsin?

i used mine on the mountains, at 66 ground balance, it falses a bit.. but with 2 less bars of sensitivity it works ok... i supouse just a bit of falsing is an issue for the at pro on certain grounds, but not to much at all being an all terrain detector. Also it has great depth, lowering sensitivity gives you more stable working, and still amazing depth.

I'm not sure mine GB correctly either. If I set it at 90 and GB it will go to 79 (in my yard) and if I set it to 40 and GB it will go to 65. I just manually set it on 72.
That don't seem right to me. It will find coins at 8" and ID them fairly well.

As in the manual , there are 2 ways of ground balancing your AT Pro .....If your machine does NOT quiet down by doing the AUTO ground balancing , do a manual Ground Balance and set your machine to a happy medium between the lower tones and higher tones .....I have to do this when I am just up from the water line at a saltwater beach as there is a BUNCH of Black Sand around in places ........I'm in the N.E. also , and 82 is right around the number that my machine ground balances to ...... If you go into Saltwater , you will notice that the machine will drop drastically down to around 14 or so .....0-20 or so is normal for Satwater ..........Salt is treated as a mineral and will G.B. much lower than normal dry sand or dirt hunting .....Jim

So if i do auto ground balance and the chatter doesent stop completly.. what should i do exactly with manual? sorry didnt get it..

If Auto GB doesn't do it, press the GB button once then the Notch Dis + or - button while lifting and dropping the coil until you can manually get it sounding the best you can. Press the GB button again to set the ground balance. Even if you can't completely eliminate the chattering, any targets you come across will still sound loud and clear.

If you are md'ing an area you often hunt then write down or remember the setting as chances are they will be the same the next time you are there, and it is a lot faster to go straight to the GB number then adjusting by lifting and dropping the coil in either auto or manual. An example is when detecting the beaches here in the direction from the grass to the water, The GB's are 71 in the dry, 41 in the change over from dry to wet and 13 in the wet. Instead of going through the process of auto balancing I just use the GB then notch buttons to cycle straight up or down to these numbers while I swing towards the water. The settings for your favourite area will of course be different.

i had GB issue with mine , when i first got the machine it auto gb fine but the it stoped auto gb i would pump the coil up down as instructed but no humming sound or numbers change , i would set the numbers manually on a low number or a high number it still it would not auto GB. sent the machine in to Garret their fixing it

There's also a really good set of videos on Garrett's website that includes the ground balance procedure. I think there's 7 in the series. They're great, I learned a lot from them.

Here in Northern California, the At Pro ground balances 90 - 92 range. Too hot? Still find the goodies with it.

northern vt gb,s same as northern cal. about 90-91 in most spots like california northern vt has gold in it so hi mineral content not a surprise to me give,s my at no trouble get good depth on my finds 8- 9 inch finds common some deeper weather and ground conditions dependent moist soil best depth
