AT PRO GROUND BALANCE QUESTION

When i ground balance in auto i push button and pump coil i get no pitch in noise, it is always quiet. I get a number is this normal? All the videos i see on ground balance always have a pitch when pumping. Thanks Tom

I ran into this and called Garrett and talked to a tech. I knew the ground it happened on was pretty mild but the upshot was if there's very little mineralisation present the detector has nothing to read and that's what happens. An easy check would be to do a manual balance all the way up and down to the limits and then try the same procedure (auto balancing). This would usually get you a small response in low mineralisation conditions. If you still get nothing there might be an issue and you could call Garrett.

Look around page 32 of the manual I think. That's pretty high as in highly mineralized. but try setting it really low like 1 or two and do the ground balance procedure as well and see if it comes up. If your ground is in truth mild then since the detector has nothing to work with the number can come up almost anywhere and it won't matter much since it's not having to counter mineralization in the electronics.

Question might be is the detector working all right?

I had that same problem and was told to lower the GB number down to 40. Auto GB on clean ground and it should GB ok. If not, lower it more and try it.

Manually move the GB to 40. Then over clean ground auto GB. (if it moves to a new setting that will be okay) If the number moves to 80 or 90, manually set it between 64 and 69.
The depth on coins will be good. If you are on a salt beach auto GB it and lower by 4 to 8 numbers.

OK i GB to 40 then auto GB, did go back to 80-81. If you manual ground balance a little lower than auto set will you get better depth? Thanks Tom

what im finding on this subject is after i gb the at pro the first time here in northern vt usualy in low 90,s every new place still gb,s about the same so i here very little if any tone changes each time i gb my at pro its just the ground in the northern mountians take a gold pan in most streams around here loaded with black sands

Yes for coins and especially silver. I would try 69 then 64 on a buried test coin and go with one of those.

If you are doing a newly buried coin, put a cup of salty water in the hole before putting dirt back in.
