I did however manage to dig 13 really old wheat pennies (1920, 1926, 1920, 1925, 1920, 1941, 1943,1925, 1917, 1948 and 3 no dates). You'd think the odds would be that I would find at least one silver coin digging that many wheat pennies. At any rate, I had a really fun day. I did corner some kind of brass plate with a eagle on it., a 1974 10 Franc Coin, a harmonica reed, a Repubblica Italiana Lire 500 coin and some clad for gas money. Oh yeah, I almost forgot I found a love ring that's stamped sterling silver.

I was running the AT Pro in the Pro Zero Mode at full sensitivity using the 5 x 8 inch coil. This detector sure eats batteries. I'm glad that I use rechargeable batteries.:)

On the way home I saw Jim at his favorite Sunday after church hangout.:detecting:

Hey tab, I think you may have a period Union belt plate there. Period Eagle design. What does the back look like? Nice finds, but that plate is a killer. HH jim tn

Now I don't know after seeing the back. Was hoping to see belt hooks or spots were the hooks were. Might try the Civil War forum. HH jim

I don't know what it is. The bird reminds me of a griffon. For some reason I think British, but it's territory was Europe and northern Arfica.

oops double post

Militia rectangle panel plate, eagle facing right with spread wings surrounded by 13 stars.
This stock militia "panel" plate was available for purchase by the militia units, in the 1840's or 1850s. It employed a general patriotic design, an eagle facing right, wings spread, 13 stars in the upper borders. Most lost in the field were used by southerners, although they were originally supplied to units in both the north and the south. Constructed of rectangle rolled brass, die struck, relatively thin plate, tongue and keeper bar were brazed.

Tabman it might be this ??????????????????????????????????????????

Some good finds there tabman!

About your machine eating batteries, I think they may not last as long due to using rechargables.... I was just thinking today on how long my batteries seem to last in mine. I use regular alkalines (energizers) and am only on my 2nd set which was only down one bar after today. Id guess that I got about 20 hours on the first set and changed em when it hit one bar and now have at least 6-7 hours on the 2nd set and didnt drop down till at least 5 hours or so.

Even if they do last less at least you can pop em back in the charger and be good to go the next day.

Thanks everyone for the help in figuring out what it is. Now I wonder what it's worth.:)

It was pretty deep, I almost give up on it after I dug down around 8 to 10 inches. I was beginning to think it might be a deep buried can or some other large type trash.

Keep in mind it wasn't found isolated out in a big open field with other war relics. The area that I found it in was loaded with modern trash and nails. Damn I'm lucky!!!!!!!!!!!

That's an outstanding Civil War find, Tabman! A lot of people would cut off their left, uh, pinkie to make a find like that!

I saw last night a great looking un-dug one listed for $495.00 HH jim tn

Hum............... I guess mine is worth somewhere between the cost of a lunch at McDonald's and $495. That not a bad deal at all.:)

Jim did you get a little mud on you this morning from all rain and wet ground?. I decided to hang around the house today.

That ring and plate are really cool finds tabman, hope your enjoying that new AT Pro! :drinking:

Tabman, I tried the energizer rechargable batterys in my AT Pro they only last about 2 hours before they drop to two bars. Duracell Alcaline last at least
3 3hour hunts before they drop 1 bar. I also found a silver ring that looks the same it says Love Faith Hope.
