AT Pro:garrett: A Little Verdi Green And Silver:detecting:

I took the At Pro to a old house site today to see what I could find. I didn't find a whole lot, but had great time.:) There was a lot of EMI and nails to contend with. It wasn't all clear sailing. I had to cut back on the sensitivity, but the detector acted like it was tied in knots. I need some expert advice on how to set the Pro up in situations like this. I ended up finding a 1937 Mercury Dime that on was edge, a 1879 Indian Head Penny, a Disston Saw Madallion, a few Wheat Pennies (1936, 1942, 1934), a old 'TootsieToy' Truck and few clad coins.

OK.....start the bids:rofl: $3.00 on the truck for opening bid!:smoke:

That soil matrix where you live sure produces a real nice patina on copper coins.

Tough spot! but you managed to pull some great finds out of it!:surprised: You gonna wade back in there with your other rig?, you know the one, and see how the Pro stacks up? I do know the Pro is hot in the trash, and I have to back way off on sens to pick my way through...Looks like you did just find though!:clapping:..

It looks like you're doing just fine! From the photo, it looks like you're using the 5x8 coil, that's a good thing.
Did you:
  • Try the 4 different frequencies?
  • Do a factory reset?
  • Check coil connection?
  • Make sure you have a clean spot and check ground balance?
  • Check batteries?

(just covering all the basics- I know you're an experienced detector :)). If all else fails, I knock the sensitivity down a bar or three (as needed).
Then I just slow down and try different directions. I've only experienced one spot where I just couldn't get the machine to settle down. Tried it again a week or two later and it was fine.

Hope it helps! Nice Tootsie!!

Yeah, Tab, check the coil connection....and do so every so often. Mine loosens up and I check it before each outing. You know that under ground line at Sea Isle, where all detectors go bonkers? I can hunt right along it with the A T Pro with a couple of bars less then max sen and it runs quiet. Nice finds today.

Yes I waded back in with my other rig early this morning, since I'm more familiar with it. It did just fine. I found my first Franklin.

Jim thanks for the advice. I'll try cutting back on the sensitivity.

Does that include shipping and handling?

Thanks. I forgot all about the 4 different frequencies.

Great finds, Love the truck !!!

Thanks. It kind of reminds me of one that you'd find setting out somewhere with weed grown up around it.

I wonder what year it is?

I would consider that a very successful hunt. I seem to hunt lots of trashy areas. 5x8 coil is ordered and should be here Saturday. I have been in some ares where I get no signal reduction on auto ground balance. Usually I just hunt anyway and try to pick out the good signals. I almost always hunt in Pro Zero with discrim set 25-30. Very few places I hunt near home where I can run at highest sensitivity. Usually cut back two notches. I've never done a factory reset. Wondering what that accomplishes. Changing frequencies never seems to make much difference. Love hearing these tips.

tabman with a at pro i about fell out of my chair cant wate to see how you like it ...thinking i might get one your feed back will help its a trust thing i trust your input . richard

Nice finds on the IH and the Mercury dime and the truck. My At/Pro acted up under a power line at the lake and I've been there before and never had a problem. Wonder if the rechargeable batteries were weak. They showed 3 bars.
