AT Pro G. Balance question...

I own a small lot in town that used to have (many years ago) a metal foundry a block away.
The foundry, when it was still in operation, used to spew a lot of iron out of the smokestack, and the stuff would blow all over the neighborhood.
It was so bad that when you got up in the morning, you'd have to wash your cars immediately, or the iron dust would rust in the dew that settled on the cars paint.
I have hunted the park that is across the street from my property (it is a rental property), and in the park my AT G.B.'s at around 90 to 92.
My question is should I drop, or raise the G.B. manually a couple of points to help with my detecting...?

Thanks in advance for your time & expertise !

Tom

If most of your ground you are hunting is so polluted with iron, set the discrimination at the approximate number at which your iron readings are it. Say for example, the ground numbers read at 22 as an average. Manually set you ground balance to that number, or where the audio becomes more quiet, other then a few tics. Now, all the other targets, especially the higher conductors such as copper & silver will sound much more clear. However........the targets will not read properly on the ID nor necessarily give the proper audio, but they will be much more clear and you should be getting better sensitivity and depth with them. So....you will justhave to dig them.

You might want to review this video to help ID your junk targets. Good luck:thumbup:

Thanks for the reply John.
I hunted it yesterday for a little while, and had to adj. the sensitivity down two notches.
My AT would start to "Chatter" when I would set it down to dig.
I pulled .86 cents out of there, and a whole lotta junk.
Most of which was along the grass strip between the sidewalk & street.

Thanks again !
Tom

My At also chatters when set on the ground for more than about 1 minute...Sometimes I have to reset it to get it to stop chattering...
Any fix for this other than sending it in for a check-up?

HH,

I can't speak for your machine GoGo, but as for mine, it only does it on this particular property.
Even across the street in the par it doesn't happen.
What I did, was just bump the sensitivity down 2 notches while I dug the target.

Tom

P.S. GoGo, I saw your other post about a video you put together, and it took me to photobucket, but said this file wasn't available ....??
I was looking forward to watching it !
