AT PRO First Outing

I found a little patch of thawed ground at one of my favorite parks today so I had to give the new addition a try. I hunted in the pro mode with zero disc. Ground balanced at 85 and sensitivity one step below max. The AT PRO ran very stable and quiet. I was able to find a bunch of clad and a few nice keepers. The 1916 and 1918 wheat pennies were in the same hole at 8-9 inches. The signal was a faint high tone and the ID was accurate. The 1941 wheat was only at 4 inches and came in loud and clear. The 1944 Merc was at 6 inches accurate ID and clear high tone. All in all I was pretty impressed with the AT PRO. The park I was hunting has been heavily hunted by myself and countless others. Not sure yet if the PRO will replace any of my other machines but it certainly is a very capable addition to the family.

That is one nice Mercury dime . Wheat pennys are so encouraging for me .Not bad for your first outing with the machine .

Thanks Bart, The deepest were the 1916 and 18 wheat's. Both were in the same hole at 8-9 inches. The merc was at 6" and the 41 wheat was only about 4".

Thanks Luke, Yes wheat's are always a good sign. I can't wait to get to some of my older sites. We are still pretty frozen in up here, I was lucky to find some thawed ground.

your snow melts soon and we can all feel some added warmth as Spring gets here. No snow in the lowlands here in NW Oregon, but the amount of 'wet' this winter has been just about as annoying. :(

A good working AT Pro, especially in the 'Pro'portional audio mode, does provide good depth and general performance. I have been using one off and on as a loaner from a dealer. I have a saturated audio model I use for some quick hits in tot-lots and the like, but most of my detecting is done with top quality detectors that have use a modulated audio. The AT Pro in the proportional audio and with 'Zero' Disc. setting can keep with some of the better models I use in really challenging 'bad ground' situations. I am referring to the Teknetics T2 and the White's M6 and MXT Pro.

I sure hope Garrett brings us an upscale, land-based models that will have a better-fitting upper rod (grip-to-armcup), and a larger VDI display. Old eyes and dinky numbers make it tough, especially with that grayish background.

They did make a good move with the 'PRO' (proportional or modulated audio) option, and the real 'Zero' discrimination, and adding a quick automated Ground Balance AND manual GB for this Discriminate mode. It was about time.

Small little thawed areas can be good, however. I know that when I lived in Utah, my native home, I looked for the little breaks in the snow as things transitioned. It gave me a dedicated spot, much like a gridded-off site, to concentrate my search. That eliminated wandering and helped me concentrate on cleaning out each little 'bare patch' as they opened up.

Best of success on future hunts.

Thanks Monte, I am looking forward to learning this machine seems like Garrett has a winner. I agree about the small areas to hunt. Once I start wandering it's usually time to go home. A nice tight grid pattern is the way to go.
