AT Pro False Signals

MDMike

New member
Alright I have had my Garret At Pro for about 8 months and i use it on the beaches of South Florida and Treasure Coast. Some days i can go all day with out a false signal on the dry sand but in the water is starts to get the false signals. Other days all I have to do is hit the sand wet or dry and i get a false signal, its irritable at the least. I ground balance in the wet or dry and sensitivity is backed down 2 -3 notches. When this first started to happen i took it back to the dealer and he took it out and could not recreate the problem. At first i had a coil cover on it and have since removed it because i was told that sand would be caught between the coil and cover and give false signals. All the connections seem to be tight and fully seated. Any help on this?

Try, taping you coil cable straight up past the knuckle before you wrap it, around the shaft, sometimes that will help, might be picking up the cable if it wiggles a little. Grubstake

I had 2 falsing issues with mine.

1 - Coil connector not seated properly (fixed that).
2 - Coil wire was wrapped to tight on the shaft. I did as Grubstake mentioned above, and no problems since. I used velcro to hold my cable in place because I put my detector in a case when I'm done using it and it requires me to shorten the shaft to fit in the case properly.

:)

It may need a hard reset. If I remember correctly you just push the on button till it beeps twice and forces a hard reset. My AT Pro was doing the same thing until I did this. You can call Garrett and they will talk you throught the steps. My detector quit falsing and acting squirrelly after the reboot on the detector. Best of luck...John

Are you using Pro or Std. mode? In standard mode you will get a false high tone on your backswing when you are over iron. You get a low tone on the front swing and a high tone on the back swing. Switching to pro mode stops it.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I am using pro mode
As for taping the coil wire are you suggestion not to wrap it until the first knuckle then start the wrap?
Also the false signals that i get are when the coil just ever so slightly touches the sand of a piece of seaweed.
I have done several hard resets.

i am on the west coast (Bradenton Sarasota area) i get alot of falsing thats because the beaches have alot of metal peices in them . they get the metal peices from dredging the ocean floor picking up metal chips from ships and using the sand to rebuild the beach , these peices are for the most part the size of bbs , it causes the machine to sound off anywhere on the screen from 0-99
