AT Pro Depth?

What kind of depth are you experience AT PRO users are getting with these machines? I know that it depends on many factors I just want a general concept.

Hi, I have about a thousand hours on my AT Pro..:detecting:..The deepest quarter (silver) I have dug was a confirmed 7 inches..:yikes:..Injun's and the likes have been approximately 6 1/2" on up....:clapping:...The key to success is not always how deep a particular machine will go....You need to learn a machine and it's sometimes intricate language...:nopity:...One thing I don't understand yet is why I have never dug a coin with a nail etc. in the same hole while using the AT Pro....This is a common occurrence while using some of my other machines....:super:.....This still has me dazed and confused, because the AT Pro is supposed to really shine in this type of scenario......Best of luck....JJ

My first silver coin with the At Pro was a merc dime about about 6 inches with a 2 1/2 inch nail above and slightly to the side of it. At Pro sounded off on both the nail and the coin in rapid fire sequence low high and high low on the back swing. As luck would have it, I was walking in just the right direction for this to happen. Approaching from another angle, it may have been different. But that is the fun of metal detecting.

I dug a CLAD dime at 10" under over surrounded by all manner of aluminum and iron. Spotted it in standard mode and decided to try it in Pro mode....
was really hoping for a silver, but no was clad...
Months later I found a half once silver in a multi day hunt at same place in the form of 2 stamped rings. ! was huge the other was not small.
they were like 2 " deep tho.
All within 100' of that clad dime

I think 7" on a coin in "the wild" is about the best I've done. I can identify 10" coins in my test garden.

Most of my coin shooting is clad in newer areas, parks and recreational fields, from sub-surface to about 5 inches.......my deepest real silver quarter in the "wild" was today between 9-10 inches with a VDI of 83 after an all day rain yesterday. The HI-tone audio was about a fourth of a sub-surface quarter.
I've dug alot of deeper tot lot coins that wouldn't VDI.... their only presence being known was a very slight audible beep, that wouldn't be heard without earphones.

Thank all of you for the valuable input. 10 '' - 12'' max. is sufficent depth for me. I am debating between the At Pro and the MXT . From what I have read, both are great detectors.

You can't go wrong with either one. I own both, I like the AT PRO a little better for coin shooting. better target ID I feel. JMO

Frustratingly deep at times. Bring proper digging tools.................

The higher the number that it ground balances at, the less depth you get. Just the way it is designed. But it is still quite deep machine.

If you move the GB number manually 10, 20, 30 (depending on soil) below auto; the depth will amaze you and it still ID's correctly. The depth is so great, you might loose creditability if you post it.

Really? Where's your auto GB come in at usually?
Mine is 88-92.
Pacific Northwest.

I've had 4 different AT Pros, 3 were supposed to be new. My first one (coil problem) auto GB would move from 90 to 80 . If I ran it down to 30 an auto GB it went to 42. I found out the my greatest depth was when I manually set it to 62. The repaired unit auto GB didn't move. Sent it off for upgrade and check; one that came back didn't auto GB. I complained that it didn't pinpoint or auto GB and they sent me a new one even before they received the old one. It don't auto GB either. I'll be taking it to salt water on Oct7 and see if it will GB there. If you have a detector that is silent (no threshold), how do you determine if it is properly GBed? What sound are you going to minimize? What can the internal GB circuit see or hear to make corrections? I've seen videos of 2 proto types that GBed correctly. The new AT Gold has threshold and adjustable GB width. I'm thinking my At Pro has a GB width of about 60 to 70. Lady at Garrett says my soil does not have enough minerals to GB. All other machines will GB here in south Louisiana.

Hmm well you can hear it GB'n when you pump the coil, only if it isn't already tuned... like I said my area will vary 4 or 5 points from place to place...
I have 2 ATP's and they differ in gb #'s by a point or two between themselves....
Same with VDI's a couple points apart.
And the tones are slightly different as well.
I will try taking it down 10 points manually and see if there's a difference.
