AT Pro depth ?

I realize the depth indication on the AT depends on target size and is not exact, mostly seems to display
deeper that actual, but I have noticed that when in Pinpoint I usually get reading one bar (2 inches) less
which seems to be closer to the truth. Anyone else experience this?

I hardly look at the depth reading on any of my machines. I just get an idea with the target intensity in the pinpoint mode. Most depth readings on any machine are +/- 2 inches anyway.

In motion mode on a DD coil you may hit the target with the tip of the detection field and get a deeper depth reading than when you hit the target with the middle of the coil. In pinpoint mode it is more accurate because the target is seen ONLY in the middle(or hot spot) of the coil.

YEAH, I THINK SOMETIMES THE ORIGINAL BEEP IS A LITTLE FURTHER FROM THE HOT POINT. THAT DISTANCE IS MADE UP WHILE PINPOINTING. ALSO WET GROUND AND HIGH SENSITIVITY OR LOWER SENSITIVITY HAS SOME EFFECT ON DISTANCE. DON'T WORRY YOU WILL FIND SOME DEEP ONES..

It does this on air tests too. I had a wooden ruler placed in front of the coil and was doing some testing with coins and the depth meter was coming in at the next notch, or two inches deeper than what I was sweeping the coin at. I tried to keep the target centered as I swept it also. No big deal to me as long as it does what its supposed to do.....;o)

I'm interested in this machine. How would you rate its overall depth compared to a MXT, Tejon, Omega ect?

Never owned a Tejon so I can't compare the two. The AT PRO in right there with the MXT as far as depth, although the MXT is a a bit more accurate on deep ID'ing. Personally I was never impressed with the Omega period.

I think the Omega is a bit deeper (in my area) but does not have some of the features the AT Pro has.
