AT PRO DD COILS

WONDERING HOW MANY OF YOU AT PRO USERS LIKE THE 5X8 DD BETTER THAN THE 8.5X11DD?

I'M THINKING OF PURCHASING AN AT PRO SOON, BUT I WOULD MAYBE WANT TO TRADE THE STOCK COIL IN FOR THE SMALLER DD. NOT SURE? THE DIFF. IN WEIGHT AND BALANCE MIGHT SWAY ME TO OVER LOOK THE DEPTH FACTOR. PROBABLY NOT THAT MUCH DIFF. IN DEPTH ANYWAY, AND A LITTLE BETTER SEPARATION WITH THE SMALLER ONE.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I have both and feel both those coils are so darn good for my use i couldn't say one is better than the other, it depends on the areas you hunt which would be more useful to you. For me - gotta have both.

During air tests a 3 grain (not gram) gold nugget tested 3 1/4" with the 11" coil and 4" with the 8" coil. A 9K gold ring tested at 13 1/2" with the 11" coil and 11" with the 8" coil. Both coils have their place and, in my opinion, you need both to hunt effectively. Call Bart at Big Boys Hobbies for the best price on the two coil set, it's whole lot cheaper than buying them separately.

I should also mention that coil size isn't always about depth, usually it's about focusing your search between bad targets so you can reach the good ones. If you don't get both now, you will later.

Something else to consider. I have a rebuilt shoulder which still has some problems. I also seem to find much of my hunting is in pretty trashy spots. That 5x8 coil is considerably easier on my shoulder at the end of the day then the stock coil and separates way better in junk. I may not cover as much ground but I don't hurt anywhere near as bad and I use a swingy thingy to boot! Just the mass at the end of the swing is noticeable for me. I also used the 5x8 on a water hunt last week and got pretty good results. I find I leave that coil on 80% of the time and split the rest between the Super Sniper and the stock coil. They all have their place for sure though.

I have both coils and they each have their place. I like the big coil for coverage in open fields and dry sand beaches, and I use the small coil for parks and trashy areas.
