AT PRO Concerns...

I recently acquired a like new, non-modified AT Pro and have a couple of concerns. This detector seems to work very well in my test garden- I'm actually impressed! But in sunlight there is a "rainbow smear" of colors on the inside of the display faceplate. Is this normal? It's not that bad, but is annoying at certain viewing angles.

Next the former owner has yet to find the land headphones for me, but I have a set of Infinium water phones... the same Garrett catalog part number as those for the AT Pro. While the external speaker on the Pro sings loud and clear, as soon as I plug in the water phones, the volume in the phones is very low- I can barely hear responses? Yet the same water phones work great/loud on my Infinium! Does this sound like a detector problem? For those who have the Pro with water phones, how loud is your headphone volume? I'm going to send this Pro in for the factory mods, but wanted to get some opinions on the internal display color smear and water phone volume, so I can reference them as concerns in my letter to Garrett.

I think I'm really going to like the AT Pro. In my hot ground it seems to detect as deep of even a bit deeper than my top-of-the-line machines! That's more than expected. Thanks for any help- SH34.

I will tell you that if I wear polarized sunglasses the display will be distorted. Also if you bought a machine WITH headphones and you have yet to get the phones I think either the seller needs to buy some new ones or compensate for you to do the same.

The Infinium phones will not shut off the speaker when used, i have the AT Pro water phones and they almost blow your ears off so much so i had to put a layer of foam in them.

After I sent in my detector for a leaking issue and upgrade it came back with the rainbow effect on the display. it did not have this prior to sending it in but I have yet to contact Garrett as to why it is like this now. I also have the water phones and they are pretty loud...no issues hearing signals.

mine has the faint rainbow colour as well , but doesnt appear to be a problem at all when running. Much like any screen though, if the bright sunlight is directly on the screen you will have an annoying glare that makes it hard to see the screen. Ive ordered Nushield anti glare, anti-scratch screen protector to overcome this problem, and also to protect the screen, as prior to getting the upgrade mine had a scratch where the numbers show

Buying used is not good if you do not know the seller........... Like khouse said the seller should get you head phones or give you some of your payment money back to you............. With that head phone thing my head phones sound off loud & clear on my AT Pro......................I would send it in to Garrett if i was you...............Also sounds kind of fishey that the seller did not send head phones with the detector.................... Like the seller knew that if you got head phones with it you would know right away that there was something was wrong......... The seller was buying time..

The 'rainbow' thing in sunlight is normal and would not worry about it. I don't know how closely you have been following the At Pro forum but you can send it in for the upgrade and complete checkout and get the warranty update for two years from the date of the upgrade. I do not believe you need be original owner but it is best to call them and find out for sure. Then for all intents and purposes, you will be starting with a new machine. I don't know what to say about the headphones except good luck in getting the originals. However, you can purchase an adapter so you can use headphones with standard quarter inch jacks.

In the Garrett catalog the water phones for the Infinium and AT PRO are the same catalog number? Should be the same?

Very Interesting! I sent the AT to Garrett for the modifications. Was told they changed a board, replaced the coil and new upper rod. I also discovered that early Infinium phones will not work on ATP, and that Garrett redesigned the the phones to work on both machines now. This explains why my Infinium phones do not work on ATP. Garrett offered me a $40 trade-in towards a new set. But I ordered a new set of water phones for the ATP outright and will see how I like them on the Infinium, before I trade my old Infinium phones in!
