AT PRO coming in a few days ? VDI numbers

I've not posted in awhile but I have just ordered a new AT pro and was wandering how accurate the VDI display is. Does anyone have or know were I can find a listing of VDI numbers and corresponding targets. Or are they different of every AT PRO.. or area of the country(I'm in southeast Mo.)... Just curious.

My experience has been that the VDI is fairly accurate down to about 6" or so before it starts to become less reliable. I had extremely deep coins(8-10") give no VDI reading at all. You still get a fair tone(some low grunts in with the highs) on the real deeps one.

Some standard target ID's I've seen are:

Quarters = 86-87
Dimes = 79-81
Penny(pre 1982) = 79-80
Nickle = 53
Gold = 43-54

Pull Tabs = 60

Foil 37-47

lol

Just don't get too anal about the numbers. In a perfect world, they should read the exact number. However, in our world, coins aren't always laying perfectly horizontal, they sometimes have rust or some type of oxidation on them, the ground/water may have some mineralization present or there might be another target near by with a different type of conductivity close by. All these factors will throw off the number a point or two on all metal detectors. What you might also listen for is a nice clear signal in all directions indicating a better target type, or as in the case of an area littered with a lot of metallic targets like say nails, listen for the chirps sending digital numeric numbers in the 80's for silver/copper or gold in the 50's& 60's. However, gold can be found anywhere with almost any numerical number, depending on it's size and/or alloy which it is mixed with, as pure gold rings are rare.

You might find the following short videos useful for making for a shorter learning curve:

Thank you for the very informative info. I can't wait to get my AT Pro in and get started...I love my ACE 250 but sometimes you just need a change...

Hated the Ace 250, Love the At Pro...
Even in standard mode one can hear the difference between digging and not.

Thanks for the great info.. I couldn't help notice your picture playing a guitar.. I also play and collect guitars...Does guitars and metal detectors go hand in hand...
