AT Pro Coil Question

I've hunted an OLD secluded fresh water beach (all grass) in October with a very good, older, non-Garrett detector that was one of my favorites. In one day I
recovered 53 coins plus some thrash. The oldest coins were two 1950's "Wheaties" from approximately 8" deep. NOT ONE SILVER COIN IN THE BUNCH. Could they be
deeper and I just wasn't reaching them with my old detector? I now have a Garrett ATPro with the standard 8.5" x 11" DD, the 9" x 12" concentric and the 5" x 8"DD
coils. Having very little thrash in this soil, what coil would give me the most depth in order to see if the real old coins are deeper? The soil is a dark loam that is practically
stone free, and very easy digging. I need all of you experienced ATPro th'ers advice. Dave.

I'm happy with the standard coil 8.5" X 11" coil for just about everything. But you say the area your detecting is pretty much clean then I'd would think the 9" X 12" coil would give you a little bit more depth but I don't think it will be much more than the stock coil. HH

I'd hit it with the stock coil with the sens as high as you can stand it.

Sailorman. Thanks for the tip on what coil to use. Hope you don't mind the questions. I've been detecting for many years but I'm a rookie with the ATPro.
Would you use the Pro - Zero mode, Iron Audio and what about the posts by some of the guys where they are Auto Bround Balancing then either turning the
G/Bal UP or DOWN anywhere from 3 numbers to as much as 20+? Do you ever try this theory? I guess I should be experimenting instead of asking but I
want to get started in the right settings. Thanks for any info you may have. Take care and HH. Dave in Pa.

Dave, I have not used any coil but the stock 8.5x11 dd coil. I have found coins in the 8 to 9 inch deep range with accurate tones and numbers. As the other fellow said, run your sens as high as possible. If there is little mineralization, you should be able to run it maxed out. The highest I can run in my ground is one bar from max. I have found that I can gain at least two inches of depth by running one bar from max as opposed to two bars from max. Maybe it is my imagination, but I routinely find deep coins at this setting. To get the max out of this detector, use the Pro mode- zero. It is noisy, but you will be amazed at how you will be able to pick out the deep high tones. I set my iron audio at 25 and run with it off. I only turn it on to check questionable signals. I also use a slow to medium sweep. Today I found a 1891 Indian and five wheats. All were in the 8 inch deep range and numbers really locked on. The place I hunted has very bad ground. It actually has streaks of iron in the clay. The AT works almost as well as my Explorer and it is by far the best single frequency detector I have used. Learn that Pro mode! R.L.

Yup, Pro Mode is the way to go! I usually run with Iron Audio off and then kick it in when checking out a target but that's a personal thing. Depending on what I'm hunting I might crank the disc up as far as 30. If I'm hunting relics then I run the disc low like maybe 10 or 15 to try to ignore small nails and small bits of scrap. The nails can fool you though, especially the big ones.

Run the sens as high as the site will allow. I also usually run just one bar short of full but have found sites that will let me run from full to as low as four bars.
