AT pro Coil ? or any coil for that matter

Has anyone ever sent a coil in for repair or ""can they be repaired"" asking only because I want to not use a coil cover and use a rubber sealant on the bottom of it instead similar to a Bed Liner Have one on the large coil and the 6x9 concentric but not on the new 5x8 I just got was going to order one but the price for them are really high for as thin as they are and the one I just bought for the large coil already as a crack in it

I've never sent a coil in but they probably replace them. Once they have a problem, it's probably cheaper to just replace than repair.

When I got my 5x8 coil,, they had not started to make the coil covers yet,
what I did was found a cover that I had,, and put the 5 x 8 coil in side the old cover
and marked some places and drilled some holes and used zip ties to hold it on...
I have also used a bigger piece of plastic and cut it down to size, and zip tied it on...
To me, the cover is less money than a coil,, I don't worry about my coils when I scrub the ground...

Yep think your correct I think I am just going to use the spray I got I used it on a coil cover that had crack and loved it works great against tiny rocks and such my mail concern is I hunt some pretty rocky areas and just dont want to chip the coil epoxy and cause a possiable moisture problem

Barry - I've sent them in for repair (and they didn't complain about my LeakSeal / FlexSeal or other rubbery spray jobs). When ever you send in your detector for repairs, Garrett just asks for the control unit and the coil. Last time I sent my ATP in, it came back with a new coil, and that wasn't even what I sent it in for. They're good about bench testing while they have it and making sure that everything is up to specs. I also live in a rocky place and use my ATG w 5x8 coil most of the time. Despite my best efforts, my current 5x8 has been repaired by me twice using JB Weld Marine Epoxy. Works great - I just got tired of bothering Garrett, heh. I try to keep a nice thick coat of RustOleum LeakSeal on the coil - I just wasn't paying close enough attention & let it get too thin when the mishaps occured. The other nice thing about the LeakSeal spray is that it provides an extra waterproof layer.

William,
Do you get that in Home Depot?
have a pic by any chance? I'd hate to get the wrong stuff, something with possibly
conductive material in it! hahah That wouldn't be good! ; )

John I use the rubberised texture you can pull it off if you work at it a little But I tested it on an old coil cover and its very durable and saves the bottom of a coil against gouges from small rocks and I figure If I can get a year or two of Use out of a coil with it on it without a problem then OK if not I will buy another coil and Learn my Lesson

Here you go...

Hi its interesting you say about a crack in the coil may cause a possiable moisture problem as I av had problems with my at pro for months some times it runs fine but then other times mainly after using it couple days in a row it gos crazy falsing and is undetectable:-( not till I took my coil cover off and cleaned it all did I noticed a crack in the top of the coil could this be the problem to why my detecting as been falsing

Noticed you said after you took the coil cover off you noticed a crak in the top of the coil ? I assume you mean on the top not on the part that is covered by the coil cover can you post a pic of it and I would think if there is a crack in it and water gets inside It could cause a falsing problem

This is the area were the crack is im not sure how its happened as im always very careful with it
