AT Pro, can you really tell when you get a coin reading??

Well first day out with my new AT hunting low lake.. Pro mode, zero, 20 disc, 75 sens..
I would have hi 90's but would dig junk.. They would look like good and steady numbers..
Used iron audio but still dug a lot I thought were good targets.. Don't get me wrong, love my AT.. I'm sure it will take hours to catch on.. Any tips appreciated.. Thanks..

High 90's is usually aluminum, but could be a jar of silver coins, a honking large silver ring, or a silver half dollar/silver dollar. The Canadian silver quarters and dimes I've found have been around 80-87 on the VDI. Most pennies on the VDI come in between 78-85, depending on what year/material they are made of and US$ or CAD$ versions.

I hunt Pro mode, zero discrim, iron audio off. So I hear low/mid and high tones. Takes about 100 hours to learn your machine, I'm probably over 50hrs now and I still learn things.

Don't despair, go slow and listen, dig everything and learn what your detector is telling you.

Thanks TGC for the tips.. I enjoyed it and know it will take some field time..
Love the AT.. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.. it will be 70F.. Can't beat that..
I'll keep you posted.....:)))

Turn your sensitivity down to 50% and dig only signals in the 80's for now. Listen for clear signals in all 4 directions, that will disappear while slowly raising your coil at about 10". That should rule out large junk. Stay with shallow targets for now. There is a bit of a learning curve to the AT, so take your time. Can I suggest you use a screwdriver to pinpoint and pop your targets out of the ground. Take some common finds like your currency, bottle caps and pull tabs. Run your coil over them in all directions. Raise the coil while doing this. This will help you learn the language of the AT Pro. Good luck! The finds will increase in quantity and quality with time. :)

If you have not watched them yet, I suggest going here and watching ALL of them:

Happy Hunting,

You'll also start noticing little clues in the pro mode sounds. Like a low grunt on both sides of a good sounding tone usually is a junk target. Trouble is it can occasionally be a good target laying around trash. Digging it all will help you figure it out at first. Don't just watch those numbers, listen to ALL the sounds and compare them with what you dig. You'll start figuring it out pretty quick!

Thanks guys,
@ GoGoGopher, You bet I have watched those videos over and over.. I'll keep watching them..Just a lot to remember, but I'll get it..Thanks..

@ John, thanks for the tips..
Really not so much trouble pinpointing.. (I also got the Pro Pin pointer, love it)
I guess I just thought there would be more good targets..
I've been hitting them from 4 sides.. Not really having any trouble seeing the size of the targets as much as the quality.. As you said start listening.. I carry a complete sampling of targets to listen to while in the field just to see what they are sounding like.. Just many more hrs of practice.. The lake we were at was very trashy.. But I dug it all if they were solid consistent
signals

@Sailorman, thank you,
I heard the grunts very well but put too much into the numbers..
I'll catch on, may take some time but with you guys giving me pointers it will be much easier..
Thanks for all you guys help, I appreciate it..

Thanks to you to Bart..

Well all the good advice paid of as for as finding..
Found 2 quarters and 11 pennies..
My partner changed my hunting plans so i didn't get to the old house, will do it by myself.. Said he had no interest in it so we went to a park by his house..
We both found 1 Lincoln each.. So on the way home I saw a 20 acre place going to be sold as commercial property.. House that was there had been torn down, wasn't that old..
Everything I dug was in the 70-90's.. But I picked up 10 more coins.. Oh well from now on I go by myself till I find someone interested in old home sites and an old cotton gin I have lined up..
Thanks for all the help.. It all helped me.. Starting to catch on, I think..

I guess I'm going to get blasted but: I am having trouble pinpointing with the AT Pro. I thought the idea of having the screen was the help the numbers would give you. As far as the sounds, I get good repeating sounds and end up with a lot of campfire aluminum junk. Any help would be appreciated as I am thinking about going back to a ACE 250 that I sold!

Aluminum is a bugger for many detectors. Even gets me when using my E-Trac sometimes. The nuggets from campfires are the worst....

How are you pinpointing? That info might help us help you.
