AT Pro bullet find

Hello,
My name is Kevin Barber. I'm fairly new to the hobby, but I've been lurking here for a while. I bought a Garrett AT Pro a few months ago and boy do I love it! It's been too hot to do much detecting here in Florida, but I can't wait to get back out there.

I was at my parent's house waiting on my mom to arrive, so I got my detector out of the truck and began swinging the detector. I dug some trash and then I dug this bullet up in her front yard. The bullet halves do not line up with each other. I've never seen a bullet like this. Does anyone have any insight about this bullet, such as age, origin etc.

Thanks for any and all information!

Kevin.

I'm no expert, but my guess is that it was a drop due to a bad cast. As you probably know, soldiers & other folks used to pour their own lead bullets. Hopefully an expert will chime in with more info on it's age & type, but it looks similar to some of the civil war era bullets.

Congrats on a cool find!

Thanks for the responses! It is really interesting that it would be in my parent's front yard not far from the front door. There's no telling what else I may find there (hopefully). Their house is sitting on a hilltop in a subdivision where I grew up. Can't wait to get back over there!

Thanks again!!

Kevin.

Thanks Bart!

The area is not really trashy, I don't think. I found a bottle cap and a couple of other trashy pieces too, but it seems fairly clean. I didn't get a chance to do any more detecting while I was there, but I only spent about 10 minutes total there.

Kevin.

Kevin, I agree with William. It looks like a Civil War bullet that was discarded due to a bad cast. It's more likely if you are in North Florida in the panhandle area. I would spend more time hunting that area, you could be in or near a CW camp.

Wow, that would be great if I was in or near an old camp. I am just by chance located in the panhandle of Florida. I know where there are some old bunkers that are still in tact out in some woods a few miles from mom's house. Gotta take my detector there if I am able to obtain permission to hunt there.

Thanks for all the info!

Kevin.
