AT Pro Battery change Question....

JB63503

New member
.. Hope all is doing well..

Today I went to replace the batteries in the AT Pro and the cover / end cap would not rotate at all..

Finally took a pair of vice grips to it and twisted very gently not to exceed the 1/4 turn clockwise like the manual suggested and it broke in several places...
Called Garrett today to order another one..

My question is.... Is there a trick to opening these things so I dont bust the new one also ? As Im turing the end cap do i also depress the plastic piece in the slots?

Thanks,
Jason

#1 You needed to turn it counter-clockwise. #2 whenever you think you need to use vise grips on a metal detector STOP! call the manufacturer instead.

Vise grips doomed it!:stretcher:

OH MAN!!...Wrong tool for the job!!...All it takes is a slight inward presure and a light counter-clockwise twist...Yikes!!...Hope you did not destroy the housing the cap goes into...You may have to send the whole machine in to be repaired...
NEVER use Vise Grips on Plastic or PVC...

Good luck,

I use silicone grease on the phone, coil connector and battery door O rings, for 2 reasons 1 to keep it waterproof. 2 to ease removal and assembly of them. Once rotated according to the manual it's a close fit and must be firmly pulled straight out. See manual. Hope you've better luck in the future. I use plumers silicone from lowes, but its also available (clear silicone grease) at auto supply and marine supply stores.

I agree to funny LOL..:surprised:  Some folks could screw up a brass ball with a rubber mallet LOL.... no offence really meant here. Just turn the battery cover gently with your fingers counter clockwise 1/4 turn and gently wiggle it out, then reverse the step to put it back.. put a light coat of O ring grease on now and then and your good to go.

WOW!!!

You guys had me die-ing... My wife said from the other room... "What are you laughing at ? " .....

Anyhow.. Thanks for the great advice... I can assure you I will never use the vice grips again...

We are happy people we own a Atpro!

Jason, don't feel bad... I sent my AT in for a tune-up and to have a nick in the coil cord repaired, and on my first outing with it after I got it back, I hit the front panel with my lesche and cracked the housing. Thank goodness Garrett is so good about repairing those little mistakes we make. If it does turn out that your housing is damaged, they will take care of you without question.
Happy hunting!
Darren

:rofl:If you see 7 guys in a neatly pressed Garret green uniform show up at your door step its just the Garrett colored guard answering there call of duty! LoL !
