AT Pro & AT Gold Fixes

It's my understanding that there have been fixes made by Garrett to these units after they were first released. What are all these fixes and how can you tell if they have been done or not to the older units that are being offered for sale. I know one of the problems was the arm cuff was too short to get a good balance. Do you still need to buy a Gizmo to fix that problem or was that one of the fixes done on the later detectors being sold?

The AT Pro and At Gold sound like great detectors and I'd like to give them a try, but I need to educate myself first.

From what I understand they put on an extended S rod for balance, add a new upper rod with camlocks to prevent it from wobbling and causing falsing issue, along with the better arm cuff that has the ribbed sides instead of smooth sides.

I just googled Garrett AT Pro upgrades and came up with a few posts containing this info....

Also, the initial first run models almost all had coil problems. That problem was corrected and the faulty ones replaced. HH jim tn

They have also tweaked the programming. If you send yours in for repair they will update the programming. ( flash with the latest and greatest)

Man....you are going back to the time they were first released. There were some water proofing issues and EMI issues. Garrett had buyers send them in for a free fix plus an extended warranty to back up their tweaks. Anything you buy now will be fine. If you buy used, get the serial number, call Garrett and they should be able to tell you if it had the upgrades.

Good luck!

As I recall it was serial numbers starting with 504 and earlier. Mine is a pre-ordered one and the SN starts with 504 and was of the series that was having problems.

I did send it in for the upgrades and still have it and use it.

I sent an e-mail, asking Garrett about the new ribbed arm cuff, for my AT Gold.

They asked for my address, sent me 2 of them, a 50-year Anniversary patch, and best of all.............A Garrett AT Gold patch!!! (it's the same size as the Pro logo on their camo cap. I've got to find a good hat ot put this on.
